Messages - AGA

#1121
The favourite place I posted houses 16, which I thought was a fair estimate given the current interest (19 who would attend assuming it wasn't only taking place in their home countries...).  Maybe I'll post another poll later, and send out a message to all previous Mittens attendees to draw their attention.

miguel, how good is Vilamoura for access to other places (Lisbon or Faro, for instance) that may have more of interest?

There will of course be Dutch people there regardless of where it is.
There will?

You're not the only Dutchie out there!

dkh, we already have 19 people showing an interest.  Given the way Mittens works, regardless of the location we will never suit everyone's wants, and a lot of those people won't make it (and others will who haven't yet expressed an interest).  We've had like 35 people provisionally show an interest before, but that eventually worked down to something like 22.  People who are open to any options (and have the relevant funding) like myself and CJ are unfortunately the only people who manage to make it [almost] every year.

http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/portugal/P2268.htm?src=LS <- this one looks cool.  Nice facilities (both types of pool!), 2 hours from Lisbon, 30 minutes from Faro airport.  Pretty close to the ocean too, for the beach lovers.

Some other options:

http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/portugal/P15306.htm?src=LS
http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/portugal/P2415.htm?src=LS

Each seems to be at least potentially available.

As people have said, bookings are going very quickly, so we need to make a decision NOW.

It's not getting stuff like this to work that's hard, it's getting it to work inside the existing design of the site.  JavaScript and PHP are easy, but getting CSS to behave properly is not!  A JQuery plugin is no good if it causes the rest of the page to go all explodey when it's visible.

Yeah, I started implementing the requested dynamic zoom, but got distracted by something shiny.  I'll try to remember to take a look later today.

There will of course be Dutch people there regardless of where it is.  I can't do anything before mid July, which is obviously the most important thing.  So mid - late July it must be!

Mittens has never really been about meeting AGS users, whether that was the original plan or not.  It's always been about cool people, who happen to have a shared interest in adventure games, hanging out together for a week; most of the time we barely talk about AGS or adventure games.  AdventureX is what you want if you want more of a game dev related thing, Mittens is more about a group of friends (new people included!) getting away once a year.

Anyway, it looks like most people are agreed Croatia is unlikely for various reasons.

I can't drive, but I'm happy to pay my share to be driven around!

I think Portugal would work, especially if it's close to the capital so we can combine city stuff with lazy stuff, as we did at Berlin.

It looks like Croatia isn't too practical for so many people, especially if the transport links aren't so good.

I will say that last year was one of only two Mittens I remember that had bikes.  Probably not a good idea to only be searching for locations that can fit so many people, and also have bikes!

Tenerife?  How very English of you.  For me Mittens is about more than lazing around in the sun by the pool, so a bit of travelling really doesn't put me off at all.  To me, Croatia sounds a lot more interesting than anywhere else mentioned so far.  And price doesn't really matter, no Mittens is every particularly expensive.

Oh, and CJ is almost guaranteed to come if it's Croatia, but a lot less likely anywhere else.

LOL. There seems to be an option missing, BERIANS MUMS HOUSE WITH SMELLY DOG!!

Both those dogs have been dead for like three years, so they're definitely smelly by now...

Added a poll.  Didn't give a multiple preferences option, since that will only end up resulting in a draw.  Choose your favourite!

You speak American, that doesn't count.

Possibly.  I've been a member on these forums since the start, and I can't say I've ever noticed that happening.  But then I usually only have one tab open...

Cat and Bernhard have holidayed in Croatia, so I assume they were able to cope.

Ah.  Well it's not important enough to fix.  Plus that's core SMF behaviour, not my fault.  If you're that bothered, report it to the official SMF bug tracker!

Are you saying that the 'new' list on the front page still shows visited posts?  That's supposed to happen, it's the most recent posts on the forums, not just ones you haven't read...

If however you mean that visiting a post on the forums using a direct link doesn't mark that thread as read in the forums software, that doesn't seem to be true, since I just tested it...

Quote from the latest Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption backer email:

You will probably enjoy two recently-released games. Heroine's Quest is an adventure / RPG hybrid in the spirit of Quest for Glory, and it's free. Several of our backers have played it. They say it is fun, beautiful, and very challenging. I think I downloaded it, but I haven't tried playing it. The screen shots look amazing. Check out Heroine's Quest at http://www.crystalshard.net/hq.htm.

So the creators of Quest for Glory know about your game.  Praise indeed.
