Finally got the chance to look at this.  Seems to be working.  I have a report coming from your IP address (at least the one you most recently posted on the forums from):

idwinverdotnetveragsverscreenresiptime
110230Microsoft Windows NT 6.1.7601 Service Pack 14.03.3.0.11321920x1080x.x.x.x2013-06-05 08:54:23

There are also a few with CLIENTINF as the agsver.

For some reason the two columns (game title and credit) are no longer lining up correctly. I'll take a look.

Yeah, the voting counting system was slightly broken.  Although the individual votes were all being counted, the relevant 'total count' field hadn't been updated since I rewrote the site six months ago.  Since each vote was being tracked with no problem though, I've been able to recount them all, and every game's page should show the correct votes info (including both of yours!)

I've amended my flights, since I can't be bothered hanging around Berlin on my own for three days (originally Disco and I were going to go sightseeing).  My flights are now:

London Gatwick (South Terminal) to Berlin Schoenefeld
Dep 10 August 2013 08:20
Arr 10 August 2013 11:15

Berlin Schoenefeld to London Gatwick (South Terminal)
Dep 18 August 2013 12:10
Arr 18 August 2013 13:05

Haven't worked out what I'm going to do after Mittens ends.  I'll either get a hostel in Berlin for the night, or just sleep in the airport.

It has been rated five times, but for some reason two of them weren't being counted in the relevant field...  I've corrected that now though, so the average displays.
#1307
Yes, it's deliberately disabled.  Videos... maybe.

No idea!  There are just fields in the database called things like "oldratingsavg" and such  :P

There have been two rating systems used on the AGS games page.  Some older games have a strange combination of the two systems, which produces inexplicable results.  Not much we can do about them at this point though, without scrapping all of the older ratings.

Plus PHP can't detect browsers very well, so it's not really an option on the fly. JavaScript is probably the better option, much as some people may dislike it.  Could do the one time PHP scaling when the images are uploaded though.  That would minimise the amount of overheads.

Search is mildly broken.  It will be fixed eventually.

Zooming up screenshots is tricky.  They're scaled down to 320x200 in the page, and are shown at full size (which is often... 320x200) when you click on them.  However, scaling up is quite difficult to do reliably across the various browsers; each of the major browsers handles pixel art scaling differently, and choosing the correct one is awkward.  I will see what I can do, but I'm not promising anything.

2) and 4) I can probably do quickly tomorrow.

So I tried rewriting the image uploading script, and it kinda broke.  I'm too tired to think of how to fix it properly atm, so it won't be working until tomorrow at the earliest.  Sorry!
#1313
That does of course mean we (you) could spend another few weeks replaying all the games to take another two screenshots.  Or maybe not.
#1314
Whoops, seems access was set to only specific people.  Should be open now.

There will be up to three screenshots soon.

"Invalid or Deleted File." for Sweet Nightmare...  I combined the two entries though.  Wanted to update the image too, but as I say, I couldn't download it.

A 200 status means the page loaded fine.  Doesn't mean the page actually did anything with the data though!  I'll give it a poke later.

It does work.  Or at least it should, assuming I updated the script properly when we changed servers.  It's very hard to test though, given AGS doesn't report at a predictable, easily testable, interval.
This is very easy to change by modifying an interval (like setting it to 5 seconds), or perhaps making it read a setting from registry. We may make a special build for such tests, if needed (or rather making a separate C# program, which sends the data on run).

The stats sending code:
Code: csharp

Some code

WebClient is .NET class: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.net.webclient(v=vs.80).aspx

Okay, that looks straightforward enough.  I'll take a look at the script later, and will let you know if I need some sort of test build.

How useful is this data nowadays? It used to be relevant when CJ wrote AGS 3 and moved to the .NET framework - but is any of that info relevant or interesting to anybody anymore?

Because the downside to leaving this functionality in is that, for most people, even anonymous data mining in a program like this causes a 'ugh' reaction, especially those new users that don't know CJ, the AGS community and such and just downloaded the editor to test it out and see if they like it. If we want to counteract the current trend of the AGS userbase becoming smaller and smaller, then we need to make sure that these users are catered towards and not put off by the datamining.

So, it's a trade-off: negative connotations of datamining vs. the usefulness of the mined data. I personally suspect the data isn't worth it anymore.

I think the main benefit would be knowing how many people are using the new beta version(s) of AGS, as opposed to the old, established ones.  I was a bit confused by the whole "why is my firewall telling me AGS is accessing the Internet?!" thing at first too.  I suppose we could hack in an editor option to allow / not allow reporting stats though?

It does work.  Or at least it should, assuming I updated the script properly when we changed servers.  It's very hard to test though, given AGS doesn't report at a predictable, easily testable, interval.

The info is stored in a MySQL database.  Don't think CJ ever set up any reporting features though.  The database hasn't been updated since April 2012 (coincidentally when I took over the server...  (wtf)), but there's no obvious reason why it isn't working.

If the AGS project people would appreciate this usage data, I'm happy to work to fix it.  If you can tell me what headers / POST / GET / whatever are submitted to the PHP link, I can probably go from there.  Or let me know the C# (?) function that submits the info, and I can probably look it up.

That'll take a bit of work, selmiak, but I'll give it a go when I get the chance.

Muhahahaha, my plan finally comes together.  What other AGS related media are there left for me to conquer?
