Yeah, like I said there seems to be a concensus that this has to be done for either $0 or $10000 a month, which strikes me as odd.

The people who do it for love don't seem to want to be paid.  If not that, then we'd need a professional.  In western Europe the going rate for a professional would be â,¬50+ an hour, although yes of course that differs around the world.  It might not be a 40 hour a week job, but it's about the total hours spent - 100 hours is still â,¬5000, whether it's spread across 2.5 weeks or a year.  And a professional is far more likely to want to commit themselves to one project, get it done, then disappear, so a lot of money would need to be laid out in a short period of time.  Also there is of course the fact that anyone being paid who isn't on a legally enforceable contract could be scammer and end up stealing thousands of dollars.  That would only really work if the quoted a price up front, did the work, then invoiced us for work done.

AGA, I believe the going rate for contract developers is in the neighborhood of $10000 per month. I recently saw an ad for a full time lead developer that offered $110k to $140k per year.

Oh yeah, I know.  I'm an IT contractor myself (testing).  It just doesn't seem that Mods realises the costs involved.  AGS couldn't afford *my* rate, and developers get paid far more than I do here.

Out of interest, do you know what contracting developers charge, Mark?  And I'm not even talking particularly good ones here.
#704
Bear in mind these 'people' presumably aren't unique.  So that could just be one XP user who's used AGS often enough to report back multiple times?  Or is it one report per unique machine ID or something, CW?

Well we're very close to the airport, and house rentals usually open around 14:00 like hotels do...  If we rent two cars it might be sensible to either all arrive at the same time, or for there to be two sets of similar arrival times.

Since the booking's in my name, we'd plan to arrive at around 14:00 to collect the keys.  We're not quite ready to book, but should be doing so over the next couple of weeks.

Done.

Why aren't these people mentioning it where it would be seen by someone who could fix it?

Works again now: https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/2139/

Well... I did notice that there are two sofas in the living room. And of course floors in every room.
#709
Of course no Mittens has ever involved the whole time being spent in the city regardless. The whole country's only eight hours' drive south west to north east, so we could probably do all the things in a week if we have cars...

Okay, we're booked!

Hafnir, Iceland. Saturday 15 July to Saturday 22 July. Payment and booking details will be PMed in time.
#711
Booking requested, Saturday 15 July to Saturday 22 July.

â,¬211.41 per person to book, with a returnable â,¬150 damage deposit p.p making â,¬361.41 each. I'll PM everyone my PayPal details. I can cover the costs for now, so no huge rush.
#712
I'll make the booking shortly.

There's a supermarket 15 minutes' drive away. And it looks like driving is inevitable. Shall I book then? I can cover any payment short term.
#714
Tamara can drive, and is willing to rent.  Looks like we have a majority interested in that place at least.  Shall I book?

Oh and Snarky the dates you suggested were Sunday to Sunday, is there a reason not Sat-Sat as we generally do?  Personally I prefer to have the Sunday as a day to recover before going back to work the next week!

This place https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p4270018 is really cheap, and looks pretty great.  Also relatively naturey, so we'd get more of a feeling of proper Iceland maybe.  It is pretty close to an airport that has car rental though...  Also only an hour's drive from Reykjavik airport, so really not too far from civilisation.  The lower price might make the cost of renting cars / a minivan worth it, especially if we can use said vehicles to aid in exploring the icy countryside.

Oh, and the original small place is no longer available on the dates (or indeed any others).  https://www.vrbo.com/3752497ha or https://www.vrbo.com/4436929ha are other small options near Reykjavik.  Second is a bit more expensive, but seems well rates and a bit nicer.  Oh and actually mentions having Wi-Fi, which the other doesn't.
#717
Are all eight who've expressed an interest so far okay with those dates? Anyone else?
#718
Congratulations to Cat, but I've split all that discussion off into another thread.
#719
Not sure what happened there, but I've fixed it.
#720
So we're eight so far. We should start thinking about booking something that I can do it in  soon. Around ten looks like a safe bet.
