I think the extremely high volume of the real ceremony may have caused a problem too, as I would assume beta testing was done on a much smaller scale.  Might be good to get tons of volunteers if possiblefor a quick pre Awards test ceremony at some point; get people to really hammer the system as the actual ceremony does.

If I recall correctly, that's caused by invalid characters in a text string; some filtering should do the trick.

That might be the weird characters IRC to show formatting like bolding and colouring.  Stripping it back to plain text should be fine, given the graphical nature of the presentation.  And how hyperactive the AGS Awards channel is, making it impossible to catch any nuances fancier formatting might provide anyway...

The most important feature request would be for the client not to crash so frequently, taking 90% of the channel offline simultaneously.  That happened the last couple of years this client was used, for whatever reason...

That is my 30th birthday week.  You must celebrate it.  Diamonds and Bentleys are accepted.

We're up for that.

I only played about four AGS games from last year, but I considered throwing some nominations to less high-profile games that seemed deserving in various categories (including Ponderabilia). In the end, though, it just didn't seem right nominating games I hadn't played â€" or any games, as long as I hadn't tried a wider sample. But I look forward to playing the finalists and taking part in the voting!

This is why I never vote anymore.  I actually played a few of the top ranked games, but it doesn't seem right to only vote for those and to ignore so many great, but less popular, ones.

Nice try, but those are only the top nominations.  There were others that weren't counted because they had too few votes.

On an AGS game page, if you set the checkbox for "commercial game", then a big button appears that says "download demo". However, not all commercial games have a demo, so it would be nice to have a third option that makes the button say "Buy here" or "Get from Steam", or perhaps the game creator could put his own brief text on the button.

Can't really do dynamic labels, since the button text is part of the image, and I have no idea which font it uses.  Indeed, for the same reason I can't update the button text at all.  The least inaccurate option would probably be to just have all game types say "Download This Game!" and for it to redirect to the game's purchase page in the case of a commercial game?

still happening...

Fixed.

I've added the option to include a YouTube video.  They're pretty discreet looking, and don't take up too much space.  You will of course need to edit your games page entries to add the videos.  The div doesn't display if there's no video.  Example:

with video
without

Dusty Mansion is fine by us.  I will reiterate at this point that we reserve a queen room to ourselves though, as those are far more limited in Dusty Mansion...  Oh, and can we ensure that the Dusty Mansion isn't actually dusty, because I have allergies ya know  >:(

Looks like Pontchartrain Park House has won out flawlessly!

I am a bit concerned with the current interest level as it relates to the properties listed. Not including maybes, we have 10 people interested so far. The current popular vote puts each spot at $554.

Is this really it for this year? My search criteria was limited to properties that could accommodate a minimum for 12-13.

Should we perhaps check for some smaller properties now? Is there anyone yet holding out interest in New Orleans? I realise it is still early in the year, but usually there is a bit more action in the Mittens thread than we have seen thus far.

North American Mittens almost always have a lot fewer attendees.  Given that absolutely everyone who voted is for Pontchartrain Park House I'd say we go for that.  We have 11 people so far (assuming Grundislav's girlfriend agrees with his choice), and it shouldn't be too hard to find five more.  There are already close to that many in the maybe pile.  I know I'd be happy to pay $500 for a week in a great place like that too, if it came to there only being 11 of us.  Bagsy (or 'shotgun' if you prefer) one of the king sized rooms!

Nobody needs to worry about offending me.

Oh yeah?  Well, you smell!  And you make bad video games!!  And yo momma isn't that great at Scrabble!!!  At least one of those statements is true.

Ohh, sorry, missed the relevance of the topic title!  Quite simply, it's because the games database doesn't have enough information about games to allow automatic filtering.  And I'm not going through a hundred games to filter them myself!  Besides, if a game is nominated for an inappropriate category it'll be caught before the final voting stage, and that game won't be made eligible for voting.
#934
Huh?  You mean here?  They don't for me...  If I change the categories I get a different set of results each time.
#935
So to help speed up the decision making, I've set up a couple of polls:

Venues
Dates

If everyone who's interested in attending could please complete both polls, it'll help us narrow down the best date and place.

I don't remember it being a rights issue.  That's a server error message, not a site one (as in I didn't write it), so it shouldn't be anything to do with forums / site permissions.  This is something that seems to randomly affect lots of people occasionally, myself included.  Usually refreshing, or waiting a while will sort it out.
#937
I said 'chose', not 'choose'!  If you'll look below the crossed eye one has already been implemented!
#938
Chose one.  Although it may be better positioned somewhere else?
#939
Whoops, I accidentally forgot to change a '2013' to '2014' in the code, so it was seeing people's votes from last year.  Should be fixed now.

If someone draws it, I'll add it.
