Hello...

Any flaw? I know it' s not perfect, I miss two frames, the north 3/4 side view, left and right... But I think it' s not bad.

I am thinking in putting eyes in two holes in the helmet, over the strap, just 3 black pixels with a fouth one to fake a glow in the eyes... too lame?

Oh! And I don' t want to make a walkcycle... So, someone has an idea on how to animate the wings???

Critics' Lounge / Help with 320X56 GUI
Wed 20/09/2006 11:47:23
Hello guys... I am making a GUI, and I need help. Please answer the questions before critics, because this are the issues I really have doubts about, but after that, any advise will be taken inconsideration, of course.

Do you understand the icons? Would you explain them in a readme.doc, or will you write the action in the cursor after clicking in the icon?

Guess the icons, and look if you have guessed correctly...

Spoiler
Look, Examine, Ask, Talk, Walk, Pick Up, Give, Use, Push, Pull, Ope, Close
[close]

Have you guessed them? Did it take too much to you, or has it been quite intuitive?

Would you change the "Open" icon for one with a closed box (therefore, you should have to open it) And the "Close" for an opened one?

Do you like the pallete, or should you change it, adding more tones?

What would you put in the middle? I will definitelly put an @Overhotspot@, but, something else? A police plaque? The guy is going to be a detective...

And, yeah... the BG is a Police Quest 3 one, it's just for filling the image... Don't mind it.

Thanks... ^_^

P.S. After the questions, paintovers are wellcome too...

General Discussion / Bombs in Bombay
Tue 11/07/2006 16:45:04
Bombs are exploding (Apparently 7) in first class cars in some trains in Bombay... The news are not totally clear, but I fear this is going to deserve a thread. I don't really know what to say, but I guess we could express our condolences, and then, discuss of politics... Hope the cipher does not rise too much  :-\

Hello. Inspired by the amazing simplicity of "the Shivah" graphics, I started to mess with the style. Here are the results... I am almost 100% happy with the side walk, 75% happy with the south animation (the third one) and not very happy with the north one (the one in the middle). Any ideas? I will clean all the "jumping " pixels, so, that's not an aspect to crit, but I need help about the pose, and specially the paceline on the "north" animation, which looks "ruse" (even being a flip of the south walkcycle...)

It will help a bit any suggestion, or paintover about how making him less "Shadow of the comet", but have in mind that I will probably change the pallete, since it's the same...Ã,  :)

Thanks to Ian AKA BigBrother and ProgZmax for the private help...

EDIT: Ok... I know why the north wc looks so energic, missing frame, sorry :)

Still not very happy with it, though...

General Discussion / Christopia
Sat 06/05/2006 14:12:05
Haddas started a silly joke about Christopia, the new AGS country in the middle of the Caribbean.

It's resulting into something funny!

First, we need a place...
http://www.vladi-private-islands.de/islandsforsale.html

Discuss about it, this is an exercise of creativity for creating a new imaginary country. I've rushed the flag.

And, oh! I've received the first complains about the racist implied in the St. George cross. I will fix it, I will try to include a half moon.

The explanation of the shield: Lion=Jones. The panel below right=Roger. Bluecup and St. George's cross, a homage to the place where AGS was born, England.

The chanel #Christopia is open to discuss about this.

I propose Chris Jones as the King (Constitutional monarchy, ok? I don't want dictadures).

I am only sure about charging diplomacy to Andail, and the ministry of war, to me.

EDIT: As we should be a little country in the middle of the sea, the army would probably be a body of civil protection, more than an "army". We should have the tools to fight against hurricanes and that stuff.

If not, I might accept the ministry of sport too.

We can do as much ministries as we want. I demmand Haddas to have a ministry as well for having propossed this.

I want this to be a fictitional place to be used in AGS games. So, the more things we do, the better, anthems, Identifying documents, national parties...

Discuss more about it. This can be funny.Ã,  :)

Ok... I don't want M0ds to lock this, but this is a thread about dreams:

Yesterday I had a weird dream. I was with Dominika, Goldmund and Lorena in a town that in my imagination was the City of Mexico. Everything was going ok, the hotel was nice, very "Rubacabish", in the side of a nice mexican square. After seeing the rooms, I saw a mexican woman cleaning a gate. By some weird reason, I asked her "Why the gate is made of wood? In my country that gates are made of alluminium" She told me that they had no money for metal gates. Then I decided to help her, I opened my bag, and mounted an alluminium gate for that lovelly mexican hotel. Apparently, they were pleased of that, because they asked me to fix the pipes of the hotel. And a cockroach attacked me, and the dream ended, because I have fear of those bugs.

20% of fun, in my fun score... But tonight's dream has been better.

I was in an imaginary tavern close to the this year mittens' campiste. I was laughing with Helm, we were drunk or something (weird, because Helm does not drink) and singing "Sakapóooo!" (The most hilarious greek song for the Eurovision contest ever). We exit from a corridor to the hall of the tavern and there, a guy exactly like Helm, but 20 cms. shorter, and with a long hair that was clearly a whig, took of his coat and made a signal to the barman... The song Sakapo started to run.

I thought he was a Spanish guy trying to annoy us by imitation, and feared a fight, but Helm entered in some kind of extasy, got closer to the guy, and started to sing Sakapo with him. They were moving the lips following the song, so, they were both greeks, that was obvious. The barman asked something to me: "Yeah, they are greeks", I replied. they were making some kind of Sakapóish ritual, they were both very serious...

Dunno who won, because all the tavern started to make the robot dance before the end of the song. What I remember is that I saw that the two greeks started a hadoken fight shortly before awakening up...

Have you had dreams involving AGSers? Or that's something just involving AGSers who have attended mittens and have personally met some of the AGSers? Can you describe the dreams? I hope this is something related with the hosting of mittens, because, I love you guys, but I don't want to dream with you every night. Hope this happens soon.

Have you noticed that many of the avatars, signature images and photos are now a bunch of red Xs? Somebody knows the reason? Is that just a matter of my comp? is there a way to fix this?

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, or the reason is Vox Populi. I tried to enter mIRC, to ask, but I am unable, apparently...

General Discussion / About Sprite Jam...
Mon 17/04/2006 19:24:49
Recently, someone in Sprite Jam cheated... the whole thread is here:

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=26033.new#new

So, we started two discussions basically:

A) Should the guy be punished? Yes, no? Argument your reply.

And:

B) Should the sprite trophies be removed? Why/no, and argument your reply.

Now my replies: a) I was quite annoyed at the first moment when I saw the cheat... You can see that in my replies. Now I feel so much better and I think that I don't really care about a punishement (A permanent disqualification has been mentioned) or not. The guy may participate in future sprite jams, nobody will care, or will annoyed by his entries... But he will lose, because nobody is going to declare a cheater winner.

b)Trophies are not compulsory, you can make them, when hosting an SJ... or not!

So, what happens if you have won an SJ and that week's host doesn'tÃ,  want to make a trophy for you? Well... You have won... Do it yourself!

I would see silly to make compulsory to any SJ host to make trophies. But in the same level we have the decission of prohibiting them, IMO...

Critics' Lounge / Help with Background
Wed 12/04/2006 14:25:49
Hello... This is a background of a game I will do during breaks of other projects.

(Which means I will last like 10 years to complete)

It'sÃ,  supposed to be a fire station in NY. The size of the building could look bad, but it's quite accurate, have in mind that the door in the fire station is actually a gate which can be traspassed by a fire truck.

Maybe the U.S. postal mailbox is too big, though... No probs, I will change it, it's in another layer.

I need crits about the composition, and about which urban furniture might I use to fill it more. Also any advise on lighting or anything which can make a good background into a supperb one will be appreciated.

Thanks.

P.S: The image will be resized to 50% of it's size to get AA. So, don't worry about the lack of detail in some zones.

Yesterday I was seeing "Wasabi" at TV. It's a french movie with Jean Reno, quite good, and it goes about a policeman going to Japan to protect his half japanese daughter.

I was seeing it and thinking "Wow, this japs really like the bright lights, dying his hair with silly colours, and the arcades..." But they I thought that the portait the french were making of the japanese youth could be totally wrong. So, I decided to ask before making myself a wrong idea.

So, Kinoko.. you are there. Is that "manga image" correct? Is there a movie which portaits well the nowadays japanese culture?

And the rest of you? Is there a famous movie which portaits well your culture? Post it here and explain why! Helm... Can you ask your older relatives if "Captain Corelli" is correct?

Is "crocodile dundee" a good movie about the people in the inside lands of Australia? Yes? No? Why? Is there any one better? "Muriel's wedding" is a good one?

Are there "Mr. Beans" in London?

About me... Not sure about good spanish movies, or movies about Spain which portait it propperly... If you can think in one and I've seen it, post it's name and I'll reply.

Thanks ^_^.

Hello beautyful people: I am working in a silly one room penalty game. This is not comfort quest, a game with lots of animations and script, difficult to do, this will be finished, and soon! (Thanks Steve McCrea for the promise of scripting...)

But I need a little bit of help.

As you can see the player is going to be tiny. No real possibility to goofe with the animation, but... could you help me a little bit with the shoot? As you can see, we are talking of tiny pixelart, I recommend to download it and make a paintover. Thanks.

Activity allowed by moderator Gilbot:

Thanks to the interest shown by people after the X-prite jam towards a possible MI remake, I have been allowed to post a concept art of Mêlée Island, for looking for people interested in becoming colorist of this project.

Restrictions: You'll be the future colorist, so, if you feel like capable to make all the game in 640X400, go ahead. If no, multiply the size by 0.5. I am looking for CMI style, so, google for CMI screenshots or Paco Vink's interpretations, but if you feel you can give a different touch, go ahead. Feel free to change some of the lineart, if needed, you are the artist.

Remember, it's a night image. Use the intro screen of MI if you need to.

Alternartive animations. "Snailed clouds" scrolling from the right, as seen in MI intro. Smoke in some of the houses in the chimneys in the town.

If the activity succeds, I might need more help (Sprite artists, pencil sketchers...) feel free to PM me, but only when I post about it here, when I consider the people is interested.

And thanks!

EDIT: Posted reference, by Paco Vink, copyrighted stuff, ok? ;) Remember to make the sky cloudless.

Remember the sprites of the end of the eighties and the early nineties? How cool they seemed at the beginning and how shabby after the remakes of the nineties!

Do the same! Convert any of the old sprites you want into something new and cartoony, in the style of Ben Full throttle, CMI Guybrush or Bernard. Of couse, Sierra and other non-LEC companies sprites are allowed.

EXAMPLE:

50 X 150high pixels as much. 16 colours plus background colour.

General Discussion / Mohammed cartoons
Sat 04/02/2006 21:40:20
I think we all know what I am talking about. Even the muslims members of the forum will agree that no cartoon, no matter if the artist painted a duck or Hitler f*cking the dead corpse of your mother, deserves to set a price for the head of the artist.

This people with torches burning embassies is really mad, what the hell is going on in his heads? A general wave of indignation of this caliber is totally out of place. I wouldn't move a finger is the "Gaza times" publish a porno image of Christ and Mary Magdalene, or the most annoying thing they can imagine...

Note that I am criticising just the angry mob. I am not attacking the 99.9% of the "normal" muslims in the world.

The REAL discussion is about apologising. The newspaper had apologised, but the governments claim that, whereas they could desire a sincere apology, they can't use their authority to oficially ask for an apology. I agree. Freedom of speech is important. What do you think?

Here it is... Epic moments in sport, the most epic, the better... choose carefully. The most recognisable moment, the better. As in my case, it's not very clear, you can type the moment itself, I.E "Montana passing the ball in the last play and giving the 1982 championship to the 49ers" I wouldn't care if the image is not clear but the moment is epic enough and it can be recogniseable when reading the headline.

The more photorealistic, the better.

You must use the template of the magazine cover. 22 colours, 23 if you do not count the blue of the templates below.

Ok, here come the serious point (This is for you to learn to choose colours and palletes before starting painting, hope it works for learning pixelart as I am doing now):

-The four colours in the right are compulsory, use them (Sports Illustrated logo blue and white, the yellow letters, and the green background).
-Three of the colours must have 4 tones, and you must say why are you using it. In my example, 4 flesh tones, 4 tones of red for the t-shirt, and 4 for the ball. You can mix some of this colours if you don't do it very noticeable, for example, I've used some pinks of the ball for anti-alising the number 16 in the t-shirt.
-one of the colours can have 6 tones, if you are doing something that needs more detail, such as my helmet.

Hope it is clear. If not, use my image as reference.
- Use the magazine template (70X100)
- Use the 4 compulsory colours.
- 3 colours with 4 tones each (12) and where are you using them.
- 1 colour with 6 tones.

4+12+6=22.

It's easy!Ã,  :)

Critics' Lounge / Animations of Comforquest
Thu 20/10/2005 12:43:30
Here are some images of Comfort quest... I feel like I am showing too much, but I want it to be as closer to perfection, so I guess I'll have to give the surprise with the overal atmosphere and the storyline

A dog barking. The motion is quite good IMO, as I see that the bark is a violent movement. ProgZmax tried another softer one, just like a talk cycle, but I don't really preffer that one better than this, sorry. But I feel that there's something bad about the tecnique. If results into something nice I'll probably put it in resources, as I think we need more animal *VERB*cycles there.

And here is what I am getting with the walkcycles. Chest bouncing, slight and violent, I am not sure which to choose, I thin the one in the middle, but I might be wrong as for the AGSer's choice.

Thanks and sorry for the lamity I am reaching here, bombing you with Comfort Quest. Sorry for posting it so late here in CL, using GiP instead.

Hello guys... I am making a one room game, and it seems I am going to finish this one, weeeeeh! Some of you might have seen this bg in other threads, please, don't think I am too proud of the BG and I want to boast of it flooding CL with it.

because I am quite happy, but there is something that bugs me.

I am not quite opened to big technical corrections, such as "the lighting of the cells in the long take is not good, if you keep all the tones for the brick wall, the cells shouldn't be darker..." Actually... I am quite happy about the overall view. no matter for me if the light source is not totally accurate or that the torch in the right wall should be lighting more. I know some of it is AAliased, and some of it not... no probs, I'll fix that.

The problem is that I don't know how to go on with the blue walls in the big cell room! It is resulting a pain in the ass. I've reached to some "efficient" sollutions, but they don't me so happy as the rest of it.

here is the little bastard.

Advises are welcome, slight overall modifications of brightness, contrast, paintovers on the cell... Thank you guys.

PS: the green pixels in the black wall are the vanishing point.

Here are two versions of something I am trying to archieve... Make a screen of a PDA, it must be functional and attractive. The game is serious, so I am not sure if Dart's avatar works...Ã,

The game is set in the near future (more or less like demolition man, I, robot...) And Lisa is a policial interface between Sentinel (a web of cyborgs with sensors) and the (human) agents... LLOYD is the main program who rules it all (Imagine HAL).

Lisa is supposed to be a humanoid interface, that's what I am trying to get with the upper left window...

I don't know if this can be improved... I wanted to give you the opportunity to help me, since that LISA is a very important part of the game.

P.S: Help for the acronym accepted, but it must LISA and explain more or less what lisa is.

You are the main royal pixel artist from the pixel land... but Christopher Jonesus III, the King, wants to cut your head and substitute you by a 3-D artists expert in bryce!!!

Save your live by making some pixelart for the royal museum! The King likes portais, so, make portaits!

Rules:

-Colours and size: 70% of the score will be based in the technical aspect... so, make it nice, no matter how pixels you need, or how many colours.

-Size: 30% of the score will be based in the size... The SMALLER, the BETTER! You are a pixel artist... But remember that 70% of the score is based in the technical aspect... I know you can make it a recogniseable Hitler using 10 pixels and adding the rediculous moustache, but have in mind the first point! Maybe if you want to win you'd think in making it a little bit bigger.

-Recognisability: IMPORTANT: At least one of the AGSers must reply guessing correctly who did you paint! I know you may want to make a homage to your favourite local band singer, or to your neighbourhood's baker... But have in mind that you might not enter in the challenge if nobody knows who he is... The more universal the character is, the better.

*Note: If you little bastards want not Loominous, ProgZmaz, Mr. C, etc... to participate, you might be tempted on intentionally omit the name of the character. That won't probably work because then, if the character is recognisable, I'll guess as an AGS member and as the host of the challenge, hahaha!!!

Having this in mind, no matter who do you paint... Lovelly and disgusting characters are allowed. Good luck on saving your head!

Example... Who is he?

EDIT

*Don't put the name of the character in the file name!*

*PM me with the correct name of your character*
