Sure DG, for me Phil has started again. I was just pointing that Phil had problems in the past, because in the way people acted seemed that he was Helm coming back to actively posting or something...  :P

The better of all this is that (even when somebody, in between I include myself, has showed his reluctances to the return of Phil) everybodya had a line of "Wisely use your second chance and good luck". Man, this community is great... :)

I have been quite worry tonight thinking if I was to harsh with Phil... Maybe it was just me who was annoyed by this guy? I´ve read the posts again: I´d like to show some of the reations to the leaving of Phil:

DUCK:
I think he should become the computer by jabbing a fork into an electrical socket and make it in his little mind.

EVENWOLF:
Adios and farewell my dear Don Quixote. Dance magic dance!

DG:

DRAGONROSE:

So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye! Do doodloo do do do dooo do doodleoo do dooooooooooooooo!

ROBERT ERIC:
Were one Phil Roberts lay, another surely resides. Don't celebrate yet, for the next annoying prick may be waiting for us to put our guard down.

DG:
But when he does... We'll be ready.

SQUINKY:
Hey guys, I really don't appreciate the way your treating my brother...

Geeze, he's been a little off since the accident...

JACKHAMMER:
Yeah, at least he doesn't reply and defend his stupidity. He's only had 10 posts, if you wouldn't reply to it, it'd just sink to the bottom.

JANNAR86:
Okay, let me be the one to say it. DELETE OR LOCK THIS THREAD. It's completely useless! I didn't care what we would've done, and I'm glad we're getting rid of him (finally, I hope!)

Phil Roberts, R.I.P
4 January, 2004 - 9 January, 2004
You came and went.

INKODDI:
We all said we didn't like PhilRoberts2004, Os Último Quão Queijo ^_^ warned us for his attention seeking...

But the truth is, WE HATED HIM!!!111 Bye † PhilRoberts2004 †... we won't miss you, now AGS forums will be back to normal again... I hope.

Well... I thought I was going a little crazy when I saw this nice welcome back... I needed to post this! thanks God,  feel better now...

I don´t know who Really Phil Roberts is...Maybe he was really intending to hurt us and he has been forced to come back... Maybe he doesn´t know how to behave... Maybe he is a cool man who has had an extremely unfortunate start...

Anyway... discovering who is the Real Phil Roberts can be a nice experience... thanks for making me think Mills, and good luck Phil.

Well... starting a thread with this:

"Why does AGS start out with Roger Ego as a character?? Shouldn't there be nothing for you to start out with, so you can start from scratch!?!"

When people has been specially agressive with you is quite arse... The post, if analyzed word by word can seem innofensive, but the spirit of the post in that past situation had the undeniable aim to create unsease, at least in the way I see them.

Take a look at this:
"Well...It seems like AGS or SCI Studio will not be my choices in making Torin's Passage 2!

I have found the RIGHT program for the job...

Torin's Passage 2 will be released, but not due to being made by AGS, so...bye AGS'ers!"

Take a look to the member list and you will notice that 80% of the members has made less than 10 posts, there is also a greak breakdown of people who posted once... That means something: Some people test AGS and loss interest and leaves. There´s no need to make a big post announcing that there are better programs.

In addition, if you say goodbye when you had the chance to leave in a kindly way just saying "So long" and come back one week later can seem for many of us a desire of pulling the AGSers legs.

IT may seem over reacting, but let me quote some wise person:
"I thought we were a collective of unique individuals? Are we all to become part of the collective, with no longer a thought about our own thoughts and oppinions?"

Ditto. MY oppinion is that he tried to have a laugh at our expense. LGM thinks like me. CJ doesn´t (I had already told that I admire how he stands two members like Kikme and Mitar, I reached a long time ago that CJ is so much better person than me).

No problems, but have in mind that a lot of people will have even more lack on coincidence on Phil than in any other newbie, and he will have to work hard to recover this confidence. that´s  logical.

Again... Phil, welcome back. Some AGSers trust in you. Some others will have to be convinced. Good luck.

P.S. And read again my post... I said "If you try to have a laugh at our expense, I hope CJ BAN you" which is mileas away to "CJ SHOULD" or "CJ WILL" Ban you.

CJ can do anything because the program is his. Nothing I can do will change his mind because, in other order of things, he is so much clevar than me, POPPOPOOOPO  ;D :P

You´ve been an arse... You weren´t not only happy not using AGS, but also you bashed us saying, more or less "Fuck you, your engine sucks and you all suck!!!"

And now you come back crowling? You had your chance to behave normaly and you passed them for your asshole. I hope that this time you became a "normal" member, but if you want to try to have another laugh among the AGSers I hope that CJ won´t forgive you again and set a huge BAN on you.

Good luck in your new AGS experience, but have in mind that many newbies have gained experience by a silent attitued of working, reading, and serious posting, and you´re far away from that respect because of your unfortunately start. You´ll really need that luck, matey...

The Final result11!

The original Ben Jones Willis has turned into a some reasonable original guy... I´ve used some of your advises, and I think I have it. The cup and the canvass shoes make him younger. The bomber makes his different from Indy. The thick lines, the redouced chest and Loominous hands make him quite diferent from Ben, also retouching the shadows.

All the clothes could have been used in the early 40s, as they´ve been copied form photos from the period. I hope you like him, ladies and gentlemen... Arizona Scott (the nickname is to honour the Arizona ship, whereas the surname can be changed, if you want another and think that it can be more appealing tell to me...)

Farlander.
#3949
Yup... Loominous hands work fine. I am making an edit, with clearer green colour for the jacket (they seemed green) and changing the boots. The truth is that my attempt was to avoid simillarities with Indy, not with Ben, It´s kinda funny that the main goal now is to make it less Ben.  ;D

I´ll post here the new version soon.

EDIT: Revisited Version: Less Indy, less Ben... Too Street Fighter?  ???

Thanks Pessi for putting peace... again. And please, plastic, a critic by you would be deeply appreciated.
#3950
That´s better... I am working in it, believe or not.

P.S. Download both images, the colors on Scott´s Jacket Arizona are not the same as in Ben, I´ve copied them from an original WWII bomber. Thaks to you I see that they´re actually too similar to Ben´s. Thank you for SOMETHING, now.  :)

P.S. And yeah! The lower part of the painting need more detailing, I wanted boots to differenciate him from Indy (As you can see in the sketch) but now I think I am going to put him some kind of "Converse" canvass boots... that´s why it´s unfinished.
#3951
That´s not the problem HillBilly... I didn t posted this to be healed, "Hey Farlander, your Arizona Scott rules!!!1"

I posted specifically that anyone who feels that can be able to improve it could download it and give a try. Plastic, You do think he is too Ben? Well, maybe I´ve been this last two days thinking the same and hoping that if I post it, someone can think "Hey, I´ll try to help this guy making an edit and trying to make it less Ben" What I´m sure is that I didn´t posted for receiving some... It´s a ripp... :P

If I don´t like something I just don´t post, I don´t post even if what I see likes me so much that I couldn´t help to improve. What I do not do is to post saying :" Hey! that sucks"  :P

Thanks for nothing, man.

As you can see, the pencil model was made, there is also another closeup pencil squtch for the face, and only the sadows have been used as a reference. Feel free not to criticise, but posting that is bashing. :P
#3953
Yes... Animated leaves, reflections and a sunbeam through the tree also, would be teh Cool! But there is a problem... Functionality... I mean, we can improve every image more and more, but we must be sure to put this standard in a reasonable way. Imagine that we want a game with 75 rooms... If you work one week per room that would leave a 1 year and a half production just for the rooms!!! that´s too much, specially thinking that such an ambitios game should need lots of animations, shortcuts, even, and a lot of scripting. I think that 2 rooms/per week is good for finishing a game within 2 years, which is the goal I am following.

My two cents, my advise  :) Think in every aspect of the production respect the whole game...

BTw, thanks cubano, your entry has made me think...

which shadow??? Which boots??? LOOK!!! A THREE HEADED MONKEY!!!1! ;)

sorry to be an ass

YOu AsS!!!1 ^_^

No probs... It´s true that the person who designed Ben and me were probably aiming for the same... an ultra-typical and super-stereotypical classic adventurer character... It is normal that the pose and most of the things coincide.

Here you have the original bodytest pic of Arizona... As you can see, the heroic pose is almost the same again.

I can´t deny anyway an undeniable reference from Ben...

Anyway, don´t worry for being an ass, everyone who I asked for in the #AGS channel (5 or 6 people) saw the same coincidence, if you are an ass, sum to that that you´re not even an ORIGINAL ass... ;D

I´ve been thinking in many of your entries, most of them are cool (Jan, what is that... that??? hat???) I´ve been thinking in putting him jeans, but then we have... Murdock! I want to keep the bomber because he is supposed to be an amateur pilot, and this is important for the plot.

I´ve been thinking also in the "nothing covers his head" option... but then we have "Broken Sword" and, as n3t said, a very "Arian" guy... That´s a problem. The Yankees cup gives him the american touch I need, IMHO... BTW, thanks in the attempt to make him younger, I think we´re getting close to some kind of success here...

Thanks for all the entries, specially loominous, whose posts are self explanatory, and a great help, vote for him to win a FOREGO!

Critics' Lounge / A character to criticise...
Sat 17/01/2004 19:26:46
Hello AGS fellows... I am making the previous art for an uncoming (hopefully) game, and I´ve been making some costume tests...

This is... Arizona Scott? Well, he is the pupil of a famous archeology teacher, and he will have to deal with the nazis while this teacher is ill...

Can you help me to decide? The australian hat makes him look to old, and he has to seem quite young, maybe 20-25. I don´t like very much the dodgers jacket, as it seems quite dumb to see a person with a jacket like this in an excavation in Egypt. What do you think of the Yankees cup? I´ve been told that the Yankees is not a very loved in the rest of the US... What can I do?

Anyway, if you like to retouch it, trying to make him seem younger, feel free to do it!

Edit: If you wanna play, download the image and make a zoom on it... who is he?  ;) Willis?

No glaring mistakes for me... It is teh cool!

I also love Nomura's character designs, but if I said something looked like it came from a Disney or Pixar movie, I'd mean it as an insult.

Lovely... Nomura is a genious because you like him, but to get something similar to what Pixar does in an insult... :P

Ir is difficult to say... so, let me analyze my fears, maybe you can get some conclussions...

Trapezoid defined it well... Unexpected frights are scary, I remember an "Alone in the dark" scene where a thunder lights the room where I was, and there were two zombies following me, a thing that I didn´t  noticed before, aahhh!

But you can´t abuse... In the old movies even the music made you notice when there was going to be a fright, and people started to make fun about it... guessing where the frights were going to be.

Wes Craven used this and put thrilling music before something harmless (maybe the strange noise was made by a cat, for instance) and then, when the character and the spectator were relaxed, the monster attacked!

But the fright films are IMO dying... The genre can still accept innovations (I.E. the zombies are slow and silly? Let´s do them fucking fast and aggressive!!! I.E. 28 days after)

BTW,it seems that the films are aiming a more "psicological" fear. I can remember "The ring", "The house of the haunted Hill" and "The haunting"... As you can see, they keep the fright, but now the "frighting thingie" are ghosts...

I think that we´re quite unsensitive to death, we´re looking to it all the days in TV, so, the script writers use ghosts, because, if a ghost kills you, you don´t know whats going to happen. Ghosts films imply that we have a soul, which means that the suffering can continues after the death, whereas with the zombies, many times resurrected by a nuclear waste or a crazy scientist, the zombies "only" can kill you.

That´s why I prefer ghost movies, because death doesn´t scare me so much as what can happen after...

BTW, the only film that scared me in the sense that it stuck fear to the death itself was "Saving private Ryan".

CONLCUSSIONS:
I can´t imagine me being attacked by a zombie, because I know that they don´t exist.

See ghosts films make me to be a little scared because I can´t be sure that ghosts do no exist.

Seeing real situations where people die scare me a lot.

My advise: Try to make the reason that creates the "scary thingie" as realist as you can.

Tolkien realised that he had written a novel with lack of dramatic intensity and he had to put something sad at the end.

* Farlander maquiavellically laughs thinking where this thread is going to end...

* Farlander makes people know he is kidding!
