I MUST do it... Because if a religion is based in a book that says something you can believe... Or not! and gives you moral advices you can follow... Or not! then we are not talking about a religion: We are talking about a "personality Roschard test".

And I don't need supernatural stuff for that. There is another thing, without the intervention of God, that gives you things you can believe o not and morale lessons you can believe or not: It's called EDUCATION.

This is funny... Apparently this has moved from "Does God exist" to "Are Churches good?".

The funny thing is that "the pros" about "churches" can be perfectly applied to any human society, like, for example, a "Star Wars Appreciation Club".

Why would sceptics attack other people?
To defend their non-believing position forcing others to be non-believers?

Because it makes me feel embarrassed to see adult (and supposedly intelligent) people to believe some things...

Of course it's not necessary... But if you are told by your parents, when you were 4, that there is a guy who can walk over the waters, it' s easier to believe that a wristband can cure your reume when you are 30.

Not necessary, no, but helps a lot. Also, the politically correct no sense of "respect my beliefs" that has spread aover the society make more difficults for skeptics to attack lot of supernatural stuff hidden into a religious disguise, like "voodoo ceremonies", "oriental ki channels" and "reiki" stuff, for example.

To me, accepting God as One that can give balance and major guidance to rising children is acceptable when moderate and responsibly done. No harm was ever done that way.

No harm? False... Religion usually is the door where the rest of supernatural stuff enters, like "magic healings", "use this cooper wristband in spite of your regular cancer treatment" or "gimme 5,000 dollars and I will clean your aura".

The argument that we have to believe what scientists tell us as much as religious people believe in their fairy tales is very flawed because a) it's about the mentioned fundamental difference of the underlying methodology, b) a proper comparison would be "believe a scientist" = "believe a priest", both are human and thus could be lying, and c) in theory, everybody could confirm a scientists findings because experiments that lead to confirmed theories have to be reproducible.

Basically, when science fails to explain something, religion comes. Some centuries ago our sicence was in diapers, so Religion was the answer for almost everything.

Now it is just "something I feel and I can't explain!!!"... Undistinguishable from any other weird experience, like astral travels or weird visions. Of course, all the religious experiences, like the atral travels, the psicophonies of the ufo sightings, can be explained quite well; But some people just preffer to go on believing in the nice fairy tale.

It's okay... It should be good if that fairy tale was not told to young kids by their parents, at schools, or goes on working as a sink where other paranormal bullshit slips trough, but it's okay...

Thank you friends, and also for those who PMed me showing support I am quite well now, actually, the only problem is that my now ex-gf is still in the "blaming period" and I haven't seen her in a while... I hope she gathers the strenght to face that this was something that HAD to happen and takes contact again with me...

Thanks guys... For my side, I am almost ok, almost at 100%... When I think how she must be I feel totally depressed, the house is full of memories, she designed my computer room, the blankets on my bed are hers... But every word I read telling me she will get better then with me help a lot. I've spoken with friends and some of them told me that this will be the best thing I could do for her, and I was watching their eyes and I know they were true, so, I know you are telling me the truth and not just anything for cheering me up.

Those who have her at facebook can tell something in that direction, too... And show her that people, not just me, love her. I would appreciate it.

Sounds quite silly to do another campaign like that for that... I think there might be a hidden "protectionism" campaign in spite a patriotic one. Might be that?

Hey, I didn't read carefully Nik's post... Specially point 2.I think she was so "happy" under my shelter that she never really needed to look for more supports... So, in spite of her being quite mature for her age when she was 16, now, with 24 she is not mature at all. So, I think it is time to "fly alone". Specially when I told her this problems a lot of time ago, probably 2 or 3 months ago, and she promised to do little steps to change this and she didn't make any of them. I was really open to have patience, but she was quite "inmobilistic". To be honest, I think she "likes" to be in the bad situation she is at home... Sounds weird, but I have been for years offering a hand, and she did not take it. For the last two months I have virtually crying "Take my hand, I must go!!!" and she didn't, so, I think that *My hand* is not the one she needs... Maybe she needs to get out of the hole alone. Hope I am right.
