I basically agree with all the arguments told by the "no for guns" group. Whereas freedom to have guns doesn' t necesarilly mean "crime" (Switzerland) in the US, in the way the situation is now, it is. An intensive program of education should be made, IMHO.

I also agree that there are not "natural born criminals" (except some exceptional cases of psychos), but I am not happy about the way some people describe the "path to crime".

A sane person distinguises between good and evil (In fact, not being able to distinguish between one and the another is one of the ways to be declared insane).

All that "We, the society, the capitalist rotten west world pushes the poor opressed minorities to crime" is, IMHO, totally uncorrect. People have allways the opportunity to chose. Of course, if you are poor you' ll have less options, you can even have less "licit" options than "criminal" ones, but still, it is YOU who decide the path you take.

The problem here is that it might not be a "correct" answer... not a 100% correct "position" for restrictive laws toward guns, not one for health care...

Do criminal get guns in countries with restrictions? Sure...
Is the level of accidents with guns in countries without restrictive laws HUGE compared with the countries that do have restrictive laws? Sure, again...

Same with national care system. Here the level of foreign people is 6%. Percentage of foreig people in the Doctor' s clinic? 80%. Are foreign citizens 14 times weaker than the Spanish ones? I think not... I think they come here, they think "Hey, I have a cough! Here they will treat it to me for free!!! Let' s go!!!" (Please, don' t acuse me of "racism"... A high percentage of this "foreign people" abbusing of the health system are tourists from countries who have never been suspected to suffer racism, like England, Germany, etc... not just "Pakis", "Albanians", and "South Americans":P)

It' s not a problem of inmigration, or nationalities... we also like to abbuse quite a lot:

Almost every SPANISH citizen here picks grandpa' s papers to go to the pharmacy and get free products: "This condoms are for my grandpa... they must be free, lady!" In addiction, telling that the people who went to Urgencies Clinics during the "Russia-Spain" match was (in the whole country) NINE!!! Does that means that their situation, when there is no football and they fill those clinics, was not that serious? Of course.

Let' s go back to weapons: I firmly believe than freedom is better than being told by the government what can and what you can' t do... It shouldn' t be necessary that the government comes here like if you were a kid, and tell to you: "Come on, kid... gimme that gun, you can get hurt... Great! Now I will blow your nose to remove those filthy snots. Blew!"

But...

If there are more kids killed playing with dad' s guns than killed by ciminal bullets something is going wrong. Also, if people leaves guns irresponsibly unnatended at their homes, a simple theft in your house can turn into having a new dangerous and armed criminal in the streets. Unnatended weapons=More weapons into the traffic.

So, the sollution, better than restrictions, better than FORCING people what to do and what not, should be TELLING people what to do. Education. Sensiblization campaings: "National health is for this, and this, and has to be used in this case, and in this". "Weapons are for this and this, and must have been stored in this way"

To summarize... Switzerland is a country where there is a militar weapon in every house and the levels of violence by gunfire are ridiculous. So... are the guns a problem? No, per se. Is the education of the people a problem? Yes.

Prog, I understand that you deffend your right to bear guns, to have them at your home and to shoot some criminal trying to enter to your home and rape your family, because I meet you so long for knowing that you won't abbuse of that right... but you must understant that some people, less responsable than you, will, unless they are educated.

Inspired by TerranRich' s work, and how posting the layout here in CL, I decided to give my future website a go... Here it is.

It is a skeptic page debunking the most classical "misteries" in history... Why a submarine? Well... one of the most famous Spanish websites about skepticism is called "Yamato".

I want to give a marine enviroment to everything.

Oh... I have stretched the submarine's height 60%, for avoiding having so much useless space at the top, so, no need to critic that aspect.

Any ideas?

PNG file, just in case anyone wants to mess with the image (It' s been redouced by photobucket, though... :( If someone wants to mess with the real resolution, I can email the file...)

I think proxima centauri is 2 lightyears away, not sure if it has planets... first "solar system" that "might" have life 42 l.y. I think... Still, the possibility of that "live" being something more than cells is smaller (Being a civilization almost impossible).

Everybody is in certain periods!  :)

Everybody had the same problem as me? I booked for the 14th... then I realised about the NIGHTS in Paris, that we should have to stay another night, so, I emailed the guys at Montmartre, and they extended the stay for one night...

As we are still a month and a fourthnight from Mittens, I guess it' s not going to be a problem if you do the same, Jeremy.

I've booked the flight. I'm arriving in Paris on the 13th at 3pm and departing on the 22nd at 8pm. Are you guys staying in Hostel Montmartre on both the 13th and the 14th or are you planning on staying at the airport overnight on the 14th?

Lore and me will sleep in the Hostel the night of the 14th and the 15th... You must think in "nights" and, whereas the evening is going to be "14th", that night is going to be "15th". So... unless I have lost something, you must think in the night of the 15th... 16th will be the first night we will be allowed to sleep in the chateau, I think.

***Clarification***

My intention was to be funnier, better than offensive. Sometimes internet sucks at expressing the feelings of the people over it. Sorry if there has been a missunderstood, Stu.

I agree...

I agree that someone who has been paranoid enough to tell that Heath Ledger was killed by Hollywood to promote Batman can believe such things...

16 colours have been prooven to be enough to make a nice sprite, limiting the pallete and, therefore, making it easy to work with and animate it.

Yours is 340 colours...
#771
If you put a little effort into looking for Mr. Colossal profile, follow it to his website, and then browse a little bit more for "How to get sprites from scanned pencil sketches" you' ll find a good tutorial to start with that style.
#772
It's an interesting style, but...

It' s too big.
It' s too "dirty" (You should need to delimitate the edges... Otherwise the "halos" around the sprite will create a weird glow that will look odd in the background)
Skin is too blue.
Eyes are too red.

I was going to post "The urban legend says the cars do work with olive oil, as well", but seeing how olive oil prices are rising as well, I think it shouldn' t be appropiate.

Darth 80 dollars is a lot, but, since it' s a car renting for a week, it basically is like 11 bucks per day... less than a whisky & Cola per day in some touristic towns... I think we have no more option. We will use the cars hardly, to make the money worthy... Those AVIS thieves will have to put new tyres after our rental!  :D

The japanese are going a little mad about that skycrappers... there is also another design that reaches... 4000 meters!!! None of them is intended to be built, though. I don' t see the point in focusing the discussion in those concepts.

The mile high tower is "real"? I read oposite opinions in different websites.

Becoming an astronaut is the main goal of everyone interested in space.

Saying "I don' t like that because I am not going to reach to the top" is a bit unconsistent.

I mean... Do you like football? Yes? Why? You are not going to play the final of the World Cup.

Do you like cars? Yes? Why? You are not going to win an F-1 championship.

Do you like AGS? Yes? Why? You are not going to match the sales of GTA IV.

Same with the space/astronomy. We will never reach there, but we can read the news, make models, fly rockets...

I guess there must be something hidden behind that "I am not going to reach the space, so, those mission doesn' t interest me" argument, but I am not who to dig into your mind and guess the REAL reasons... but I am here to mention that your reasons are unconsistent.

It was not a video, Evenwolf... It was just a link of the ESA website.

Emerald said "I can't  like space ships because space travels are made by americans" and I posted a link of the ESA, (European Space Agency, including Ireland, as well) to prove him that he won't go to the space not because of his nationality, but because going to the space is damn difficult...

Again, sorry for the missunderstanding. No bad feelings about the people' s reactions, since they were reactions bases in a missunderstood.  :)
#778
Sorry for digging up this old thread but...

WTF? I posted a link about the 9/11 "squibs" in the WTC. Sorry... I wanted to post a link about the ESA website to show Emerald that the space exploration is a thing of everybody, and not just the americans.

http://www.esa.int/esaCP/index.html

Why did I post a link about the WTC? I am fighting against a group of conspiranoids (In another forums) that say that the WCT collapsed because it was a controlled demolition... I think that if you watch the "incriminative" video carefully you'll realise that it wasn' t not a controlled demolition, but that' s another discussion...

Sorry for the missunderstood.

I like SC. Maybe because I am small as a halfling, and it' s a bit Freudian, as SSH says, but have one thing in mind:

The area of a building, at the base level... If you do it one-storey high, you' ll probably put, what... 3, 4 families? 4 or 5 offices? Do it ten-storey high and you' ll put 40 families or 50 offices. 100 storeis high and you' ll have 400 families, 500 offices... Probably better than devastating a huge area for making one flat houses/offices, no?
