Completed Game Announcements / AGS Yahtzee 2
Sun 27/07/2014 21:27:18
Here is another one from scratch

AGS Yahtzee 2

So why a second version? I was bothered most by the code mess of the first game. There was practically no room for improvement.
Since the first game I invested some skill points in "programming" so that I basically could write most code passages in 10 to 20 lines instead of 100 to 1000. Yeah great... and what is the benefit? First some screenshots:

Playing a customized game mode

Playing a game mode from the first game

Play the mode you want

And Create the tournament you would like to play

What you get:

- Everything the first game had
- Improved interface
- Customize your game by changing the basic rules
- Create your own tournament
- Highscorelists (TOP- and BOTTOM-Score) for every game mode and tournament you create
- Live highscore position (taking the score of the respective players into account)
- Some new statistics
- Import your old profiles, statistics, highscores and savegames into the new game

You can download the game here: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/1814/

Hope everything works as expected. Hope you enjoy it! :)

Shade

*EDIT 09.08.2014
- Fixed: points doubled after World Record highscore screen
- Fixed: TOP- and BOTTOM-Highscore entry in statistics hasn't changed, when someone lost a highscore

*EDIT 10.08.2014
- Fixed: MEGA should work correct now
- Fixed: Too many players after loading imported save
- Fixed: Bonus points didn't count for the last player when he got them on the last entry
- Speed up the yahtzee animation

*EDIT 31.08.2014
- Fixed: Witchcraft should work correct now
- Fixed: GUIs not clickable after opening custom game dialog

THE GAME HAS BEEN RELEASED

Here is another one from scratch

AGS Yahtzee 2

Most of what I have to do now is bug tracking (I think). If there is anyone who would like to betatest this I would be happy. :)

Some people think i am bonkers when i jump around but i am just here to tell you that papas got a brand new pigbag! Well not really. With the power of the seven nation army and the eye of the tiger i present you a game from down under which you can't touch. Here is

The focus of the first AGS 180 Darts was on an easy gameplay. You were able to control everything with just one button. Basically this hasn't changed in the new version. So what's the deal?

The focus is more one the darts experience this time. Here are some impressions:

The main menu

Who will battle against Phil Taylor?

Customize your darts

Wade trying to catch van Gerwen

Barney missing 3 darts on a double in double-in mode

What's really new:

- new throw-system with possible bouncers
- 1024x768
- throw on bull's-eye
- double-in
- save a replay of your match
- see your
...average
...double rate
...highest checkout
...score 100+, 140+
...and how many 180s you hit
- everything is displayed as seen on tv!
- the crowd now and then sings a little song
- more complex and customizable ai
- the ai's form changes throughout the game
- small training program: be the chalker!
- every player has his own unique darts
- customize your darts

i hope you'll like this game as much as i do and of course that everything works as expected. tell me what you think!

in this sense: have fun and chase the sun! ;)

It took one week to create the basic version and a month to enhance it. But it was worth the effort.

selmiak polished the game up with new graphics and ideas to improve the gameplay. But what exactly has changed?

- new graphics
- new interface
- play with up to 22 rows
- choose whether you can pick a color twice or only once
- delete a color or even the whole row
- set a random combination
- copy a combination from any previous row
- see how many tries you have left
- points and highscore lists (thanks to Rocco for his module!)
- profiles that store your wins, losses and aborts in singleplayer mode
- multiplayer with up to three players
- play up to 9 rounds with different settings in multiplayer mode

We hope you like this whole new mastermind experience. Have fun! :)

It comes completely from scratch...

AGS 180 Darts 2

The focus of the first AGS 180 Darts was on an easy gameplay. You were able to control everything with just one button. Basically this hasn't changed in the new version. So what's the deal?

The focus is more one the darts experience this time. Here are some impressions:

The main menu

Who will battle against Phil Taylor?

Player 1 hits triple 20 on the way to a 9-darter

Player 2 missing 5 darts on a double in double-in mode

Mighty Mike has to hit double 18 to win the first leg

thats new:

- one button gameplay with new throw-system
- 1024x768
- single game with customizable gameplay:
    - throw on bull's-eye to determin who begins the first leg
    - double-in
    - decide how many legs/sets you are going to play
    - decide how many points one leg has
- save a replay of your match
- now you can see your average, double rate, highest checkout, how often you hit a score 100+, 140+ and how many 180s you hit
- if you play with 501 points you can see whether you are still able to hit a 9-darter or not
- all of that is displayed as seen on tv
- if you play with sets you have to win the last one by two clear legs and at the end there will be sudden death
- more complex ai (if you choose Shade as your opponent you are able to customize his stats)
- don't want to play but to write down the scores? be the chalker! (kind of like a small training program)

Whats the progress?

- Graphics 100%
- Scripting 100%
- Music/Sound 100%

Release: Hopefully some time in the near future. ;)

I hope you like this first impression and if you liked the first game then you'll love this one.  :)

*Update 01.04.2013

How does this years world championship final look like in this game? This is the question i asked myself after i finished the ai a few days ago. So i put up a match of Michael van Gerwen against Phil Taylor, recorded the replay of it and put it up so you can download the video and see the result for yourself. The overall ai strength is set to the highest difficulty.

lets say i have a lot of buttons (all called Button + running number, eg Button1, Button2, ...) and i want to change their graphics individualy depending on the value of certain variables. now i don't want to call the buttons one by one.
here is what i mean. is there a way to simplify this:

Code: ags
int x;
int y;

while (x<100){

    y=Random(100);

     if (x==y){

	if (x==0){

	    Button0.NormalGraphic=y+1;
	    Button0.Visible=true;

	}
	else if (x==1){

	    Button1.NormalGraphic=y+1;
	    Button1.Visible=true;

	}
	...
    }

    x++;

}

into something like this?:

Code: ags
int x;
int y;

while (x<100){

    y=Random(100);
    Buttonx=?

    if (x==y){

	Buttonx.NormalGraphic=y+1;
	Buttonx.Visible=true;

    }

    x++;

}

Buttonx should change into Button1, Button2, ... depending on the value of x. is there a way to achieve this somehow?

Thanks for your help!

wanna play darts? now it's possible:

my intention was to make the game as easy to play as possible. so there are no complex rules and you control everything with just 1 button.

features:

* customizable game mode
* every player has his own profile
* small statistics
* 1 button gameplay
* AI with 3 difficulties

AGS Yahtzee

well what can i say? it's not an adventure but it's the good old yahtzee with some additions!  :)

the menu v2.0

Adding a profile

faint quadruple mode with reworked interface

a few statistics for every player

there are 9 game modes "single", "double", "triple", "quadruple", "ultimate quadruple", "faint quadruple", "ultimate faint quadruple", "flower" and "countdown".

single is the standard version and in double, triple and quadruple mode you just have extra columns with a multiplier (e.g. column 3 means points x3).
in the ultimate mode you have 4 columns as in quadruple mode BUT you have rotating columns. that means in round 1 you play in column 1, in round 2 in column 2, in round 3 in column 3, in round 4 in column 4 and then it starts again with column 1.
for each mode there is a seperate highscore list for which i used Rocco's highscore module.

Faint Mode:
You have a Quadruple AGS Yahtzee scoreboard BUT it's not as easy as a normal Yahtzee game!
What does that mean?

60 points upper score in 1. column = 25 bonus points.
63 points upper score in 2. column = 35 bonus points.
66 points upper score in 3. column = 45 bonus points.
69 points upper score in 4. column = 55 bonus points.

AND a "0" from the other modes becomes a "-25" in FAINT mode!

Ultimate Faint Mode: Guess what?

Flower Mode:

You have a Triple AGS Yahtzee scoreboard BUT there are some special rules:

If you have an upper score of 63 points you receive bonuspoints.

upper score of 63 or higher in column 1 means total upper score of column 1 as bonuspoints in column 3.
upper score of 63 or higher in column 2 means total upper score of column 2 as bonuspoints in column 2.
upper score of 63 or higher in column 3 means total upper score of column 3 as bonuspoints in column 1.

AND a "0" from the other modes becomes a "-?" in FLOWER mode!

Countdown

You have a Triple AGS Yahtzee Scoreboard BUT there are some special rules again:

First of all the number of rounds in this mode is random. So it is possible that not all fields are played. The Countdown color indicates whether the end is near or not.

Upper score >= 63 --> bonus points = upper score

For every yahtzee you get 100 extra points!

And a "0" becomes more negative with every round (e.g. round 1: -1, round 2: -2...).

"first hand" rule: If you roll a full house, small/large straight or yahtzee with your first roll you receive double score.

quick hint: if you move the mouse to the left edge of the screen the quick hint gui pops up.

tournament mode: play all modes one after another and go for the world record! the points from each mode add up!

AGS Yahtzee v2.0

So, what's new Scooby Doo?

Profiles: every player now has his own profile with some statistics.

Bottom score: everyone wants to reach the highscore and no one wants to lose. but now your worst results are honored in a "highscore" table.

reworked interface: i wanted to get rid of the grey buttons, so i integrated their functions in different places (eg game information can be accessed by clicking on the logo in the top left corner or highscores by clicking on the modes name).

*** note: a tournament savegame from an earlier version won't work with this version!

lets say i have 10 different integer: int1, int2, int3....
every integer can be either =0 or =1.
now i would like to know e.g. how many of them are =1 (are 5 =1 or 2 or all of them?).
how can i count how many integer are =0 or =1?
#11
here it is front and side view. i want to keep the shading as simple as possible and i am quite happy with the side view but the front view looks just awful.

can anyone help me on this one? thanks!

since Ha Ha I am OK is busy at the moment i have the honour to host my second Animation Challenge.
i hope that i represent Ha Ha I am OK well.

i think you all know the rules so heres the sprite:

this creature is a Fûrlîng (Fur-ling).
well as i heard that i have to host this competition i directly started to work on a sprite because i wanted to start the competition as soon as possible and so i hadn't the time to think of a better name. anyway it's a new race ;)

animate the sprite in any way you like. everything from a quick wink over headbanging to war will be accepted.
there is just one restriction: no animal porn pleaseÃ, ;)

btw there will be trophiesÃ, ;)

i want to see many entries! so get ready, GO! and have fun!Ã, :)
#13
 The rules:

* A sprite is supplied, with a theme.
* Participants must use the given sprite for their animation.
* Each competition will last 11 days.
* The starter of each competition will decide on the winner.
* The winner will start a new competition as well as supplying a sprite.

well actually i am sorry for being lazy because i haven't done a complete new sprite. so i just picked one of my characters.

your job is to create an idle animation for her!
what you have to know about her is: she is supposed to be a renegade character, she likes sport of any kind and she plays guitar and likes to ROCK!

and now guys and gals start your fantasy...
#14
well this is my first female character i ever made. i am quite happy with the front view but the side view doesn't really fit to it. anyway heres the sprite.

x1: x2:

please tell me what i can improve. thanks.

at the moment there are some people (including me) which would like to have different expressions. but there is one problem. if i use sierra-speech-style i have to set up a new view for every expression i would like to use. if you have got 10 expressions total this is no problem but if you have 10 expressions for every of your 40 characters? well...then you have to set up 400 views!
the problem could be solved in a very easy way i think. we just need one simple function:

Character.SpeechViewLoop

or

Character.SpeechView(int view, int optional loop);

then one can put all the expressions for character 1 into view 1 for example.Ã,  and one just have to set up 40 views or less instead of 400!
of course one can use my module but with this it gets complicated with the dialogs if one doesn't use the ScrollingDialog module. thx

ever thought of having diferent expressions with the sierra-speech-style? till now the sierra-speech-style is not very comfortable i think so i made this tiny thing. with this you are more flexible i think. some links:

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=23197.0
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=23300.0

it's not much but well...here it is:

http://www.freewebs.com/sh4d3/expression-speech-style.zip

everything you need to know is in the module but i put it here too:

how to set it up?

1) create a new gui and call it "Dispgui"
2) create a button wherever you want and call it "btnPortrait"
3) create a label wherever you want and call it "lblText"
4) put the different expressions into the characters' speech views

how to use it?

first of all this script is used in the way of the "displayspeech" or the "player.say" command.
"Who" is the one who talks, "expression" is the loop number of the character speech view, "message" is the message"
if you want to use this in dialogs it gets a little bit more complicated.
1) for every dialog option you have to set up a "run-script x" command.
2) then go to the "dialog_request" section in your global-script
3) do something like this:

if (param == 1){
conversation
}
if (param == 2){...

the params are your dialog options now. you just have to keep track on which param belongs to which dialog option.
as you should have noticed you don't have to use the dialog editor for the conversations.

Thanks to Ashen for putting this into new style scripting and for improving it!

addind voicespeech

not long ago i made this (ags 2.62):

Code: ags
function Speech(int who, int Face, const string text){
Ã,  SetButtonPic(5, 0, 1, Face);
Ã,  SetLabelColor(5, 1, character[who].SpeechColor);
Ã,  SetLabelText(5, 1, text);
Ã,  GUIOn(5);
Ã,  WaitMouseKey(((StrLen(text) / game.text_speed) + 1) * GetGameSpeed());
Ã,  GUIOff(5);
}

and Ashen improved it (ags 2.7):

Code: ags
function Speech (Character *Who, int expression, string message){
Ã,  btnPortrait.Animate(Who.SpeechView, expression, 3, eRepeat);
Ã,  lblText.TextColor = Who.SpeechColor;
Ã,  lblText.SetText(message);
Ã,  gDispgui.Visible = true;
Ã,  WaitKey (((StrLen(message) / game.text_speed) + 1) * GetGameSpeed());
Ã,  gDispgui.Visible = false;
}

i thought of adding voice speech to this so that this "expression-speech-style" (how i like to call it) has the same features as the sierra-style-speech (of course it's even better ;)). but there is one big word in my head which i can't erase. this word looks like this: HOW.

one could do it with playmp3file("ego1.mp3"); or something like this but then one have to copy all voicespeech files into the compiled folder.
with playmusic or playsound it gets even more complicated.

antoher way could be to replace the lblText.SetText(message); line with e.g. cEgo.SayAt command. then one can put the text right beside the expression and handle the voicespeech with &1, &2, etc...but i don't like this because this limits the flexibility.

any ideas? thx

here is what i have:

it's empty till now but before i go on i want to have some feedback. what do you think?
