@jwalt
No worries, dear

You are too kind, Tabata. Worked this up in case we ever have a wall-E Sprite Jam:

After the fact, I got to thinking that I have derailed Tabata's Sprite Jam with stuff that might be better suited to The Rumpus Room. I apologize to Tabata and everyone else for messing with what is, afterall, a serious competition.

Please consider the first image I submitted as my entry. I will now slink off and hide in the corner.

Edit:

Spoiler

@Ponch regarding Blade Runner - I'm guessing you already know that Douglas Trumbull, who helped make Silent Running, was also involved in Blade Runner. He was Special Photographic Effects Supervisor for both films.

@Mandle regarding morphing pains - I don't know about the amputees inside, but Gonk said it hurt more than Jabba's hot foot torture, poor guy.

Since my nefarious plot, to convince Tabata that my droids had something to do with Star Wars, was successful, I decided to give the Silent Running concept art droid a try:

Only, I think I mixed my movies up, again...

jwalt, I didn't know this facts about the drones. It was very interesting (good I asked). ;-D
And no â€" I won't disqualify an entry. I am happy for every entry that has been done and maybe ... or hopefully will be done.
Thank you for yours, jwalt.

So, all this body and fender work on a spare Silent Running drone, to morph it into a Star Wars Power Droid, goes for naught. ;)

@cassie & cat

I can understand why someone might find the movie boring (or tedious, or preachy, or, even, illogical -- plants need light?). I've always liked the film, nonetheless. But, after seeing the original droid concept art, I can totally see them throwing Bruce Dern out an airlock, if that helps in any way. ;)

My Silent Running droids are likely to get booted out of the first biannual Star Wars Sprite Jam for lack of context. In trying to justify my entry, I found this interesting site:

http://cyberneticzoo.com/not-quite-robots/1971-silent-running-drones-doug-trumbull-don-trumbull-paul-kraus-james-dow-american/

The site has a lot of information about how they made Silent Running, including some early concept art regarding how they envisioned the droids. Quite frankly, the originals scare the hell out of me. With current 3D capabilities, they could have easily brought the original concept to the screen, but the movie wouldn't have worked as well, for me, as what they did create back then, in very workman like fashion. Progress, evidently, can be a bitch.

And jwalt you offered some well done guests from Running Silence, the three lovely robots that I like so much (if I realized them correct)

In case I am correct then I am sorry, but you searched in the wrong movie. I can't remember of an appearence of those in Star Wars or Star Trek. That means we are in need of an explanation to know if they belong to Star Wars or Star Trek and what they ar doing there. (roll)

On the serious side, feel free to disqualify the image if you want. I will not be offended in any way.

On the other hand... I did do a bit of Googling to find the connection, and discovered this interesting site about Silent Running:

http://cyberneticzoo.com/not-quite-robots/1971-silent-running-drones-doug-trumbull-don-trumbull-paul-kraus-james-dow-american/

It has the following quote:

Los Angeles Times â€" Dec 5, 1977

……….The drones. by the way, proved to be director George Lucas' inspiration for his own stubby robot, R2-D2, a fact that he admitted to [Doug] Trumbull when he approached him about contributing to "Star Wars." Trumbull, however, turned down the assignment because he did not want to repeat himself by returning to another space opera…………..

Edit: And Googling Star Wars Power Droid reveals a certain cosmetic connection. The shape isn't quite correct, but the lineage seems viable.  (laugh)

Paid a visit to the local Jawa encampment and picked up these stout fellows, just for this contest. I --  What's that, Tabata? Wrong movie? Oh, so these aren't the droids you're looking for? Sorry about that.

Welcome to AGS!

There are several first person AGS games. There is even a setting that allows disabling the player character for a room, just set ShowPlayerCharacter to false in the room's property grid.

For example: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/735/

Yes. The other title, in Europe, was something along the lines of "Operation Teakettle." Well done.

I've just about convinced myself that the first time I saw this movie, it was on the mess decks while serving aboard a ship that was only slightly larger than the one in the picture?

The movie actually has two titles. It was released in Europe with a different title. How my ship managed to get the European titled movie, I have no clue. We did make a port visit to Plymouth, England, but I don't think we swapped any flicks with the Limeys while we were there.  ;-)

Breaking Away is correct.  The first shot is from when the father returns for a visit to the stone cutting mill.

"I want some American food. I want French Fries."

I continue to have some problems uploading images, so if someone wants to steal this round from me -- feel free. Otherwise, I'll try to get something up later today.

The quarry looks like it is from Breaking Away. I'm not so sure that the other shot is in Breaking Away, but I guess it might be part of the pan sequence on the rainy day, where the dad was inside the car dealership office, and the boy was oustide on the bike riding the rollers. Might be wrong, however.

Decided a kiva might qualify as a Mystic's House. Searching Google Images led me to this:

More set decorator than artist, here. Bryce render. Landscapes from Bryce, cave and "kiva" from Anim8or, naked lady from DAZ Studio. Background image of Milky Way is from Kit Peak National Observatory.

The specific Google image search that prompted this was "false kiva canyonlands." It, indeed, looks to be a mystical place.

jwalt I spelled my drink when I saw your shape! I like it :P but if you want it to be part of this competition make sure you get rid of these few transparent pixels outside of the palette's limit.

Transparent pixels outside the palette's limit... Looks like I wound up on the wrong side of my revenge.  ;-)

Edit:

Okay, I found and fixed three pixels outside the color palette. If there are more, it's okay with me to disqualify the entry. I'm having some problems uploading images at the moment, and it's not likely to change in the near future.

Pretty much came up empty of ideas on this shape with color limitations. Decided I'd just get even:

It was interesting to look at some of the CGA images, however!
