I'm not sure where you're looking, but the version that is included with the AGS 3.0 download should work fine.

Make sure you download the installer version, and that you check the "Install the demo game" box when installing.

Then, open it using the "Open the Demo Game" option in the AGS folder on the start menu.

I did all that and there was no such option, it's not big deal, I just thought it was strange. When the newest edition is released and I hear that may be soon, I will see if it works this time.

Time for a NECROPOST! WHAHAHAHA!
Just bringing this up for the people who may have missed it.
Okay, I don't even remember seeing you around the forums and then I read the latest entry of your blog and then I found something I really was surprised about. I'm on the list and this is what you said about me.
"-Rock Chick, who is a girl, rock lover, and AGS user. That's hot. If she's hot, I'd totally tap that."
Um......I'm flattered :o to say the least but I'm not that hot in real life, but I'm not that bad looking.

I was able to work it out much easier in 2.72 or whatever version I used to use but I'm looking for a way to set it so that after a certain things happens when doing the same action on a hotspot after the first to display a different message, not only for that action but it could be for any action, for example say the hotspot is a box, the player interacts at an unopened unopened envelope, and therefore the message says they've open it and the letter is now in their inventory, so afterwards I'd want a message saying something different if the player tries the same thing but also if they use another action for the same object, how would I be able to do that? My example may not be the best but I think it sums up what I'm talking about.

Some people are born with a natural talent for sketching, like some have for painting, etc. and others have a general lack of ability and I'm one of them. People like me would probably need to take courses just to learn how to sketch properly, only people have this issue knows what it's like. I would never go that far just to sketch because while I want to learn to draw images on a computer, I'm willing to make some compromises.

Very impressive background, I see you've used more of a pixel art style or do I have no idea what I'm talking about here? Just wondering why there's a letterbox in it, why would a lighthouse need one?

Oh, again? :P

There's been a writing comp, it generated interest. Eventually the last person to win didn't start a new thread.

It's worth bringing back to life, yeah. :P It's also been discussed in this thread, if you want more particulars.

I noticed it has that's why I asked if anyone had done anything about, like pming a mod to get a serious yay or nay. I'd do it myself but just coming into this whole thing means I would probably not be able to make a proper argument. So many ideas are mentioned here and then others come along and agree they like it but then nothing happens and it just seems that if something has enough support why don't they ever get official replies from mods? I know they're busy people with real lives but I thought that was the whole purpose of this thread?

Just go over to the critics lounge and post your stuff. It can't hurt.
The only reason one would not post in there is some sort of fear that your thread might get pushed down and lost in the crowd.
I post in there every once in a while and it's always been appreciated.
Another reason could be a user once got involved in a nasty argument or incident there.

Since there's been so much enthusiasm for the chain story or 'grandiose writing project', why don't we have an individual writing competition?

Every fortnight we set a topic like say, 'the sea' or 'road trip' and everyone writes their own short story. Everyone votes on their favorite and the winner gets to chose the next topic. It's a chance for people to improve their writing skills.

I reckon this would be wildly popular, opinions on a postcard please.

As a writer of sorts myself I love this idea, what's the status on it, did it get rejected or has no one pmed a mod about it yet?

I just found out about an old competition that I thought was really cool, it was "Photoshop Biweekly: Using your favourite editing program, modify a picture to fit the theme of the week".
Referring to this thread http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=5477.0
it doesn't have a line through it, meaning it should still be active but it doesn't seem to have been running for almost 2 years.
With all the competitions that already exist and that involve graphic only work I think maybe bringing it back as run once a month or if that seems too long, once a fortnight. Of course this has nothing to do with how long each competition would run for, the same time as before seemed fine, it would just mean there'd be more time between each competition. What does anyone else think?

If you've got issues posting in C&C then you'll probably not be able to help many people here with their backgrounds unless you choose to do what you propose, I still think it's kinda pointless and because of C&C being used so much you are unlikely to get much attention but it's up to you, you've heard people's feedback and you know what you agree and disagree with about it, so make the choice when you feel you've got enough feedback.

No need for a net search, I found links to both on this page http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/acres.shtml
and they are both still broken. Also the link to AGDzine on this page
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/aclinks.htm
isn't working either, perhaps some pruning and link checking and fixing or removal is in order.
#72
No need, a simple net search should find it easy and I agree with the banner idea but in the form of some image link or even text link on relevant pages of the site and the forum would be  one of them. Even a sticky in the Beginner's tech problems about it would help, there's one fore the BFAQ but not the wiki.

And yes I'd generally prefer the wiki option but I was referring more to people with certain, rarer issues, like errors and such. BFAQ's link has been broken for at least a few months and I don't know how long the wiki one has but top priority in regards to using or advertising them is to fix those links!

Since the person whose idea this originally was has given up on it, it might be good idea to simply lock this thread. No reason to rehash stuff that's already been said.
#74
While your backgrounds are really good I just don't think a whole thread for this needed considering C&C is more than enough for that, I think writing that tutorial would be a better idea. If you want, you could also be very active in C&C pertaining to backgrounds.

Thanks all for that! - Just wanted to add that I didnt hate it, it wasnt exciting enough(for me) to push further.
For those asking for tutorials and such, have a look over here:

Surprised no one had replied when I checked it out but I just did anyway and your background is awesome and I doubt you wont be the winner!

rock_chick:
Yes, monthly in this context means that it is arranged every month. The five days is needed for voting and to give voters (anybody) a chance to finish each game (and to give the winner some time to consider next months rules). Technically you are right. There is less than a month time to make a game. But then again, a game finished in 25 days is done in one month :)

I've already basically as good as removed my post you're talking about for similar reasons as you have mentioned anyway.

CJ names the versions after current events. It doesn't mean anything. It is not an official release yet until the main page is updated. However, it will be the official release if no-one finds any bugs in the next few days.

Well then I guess he did name it for a similar reason at least because Tibet currently mainly seems to be a current event feature for the reason I mention or is there another reason?

So until he places it on the download page it's technically still a beta as such? Well then I'll wait until he does so before I start using it and if it does have bugs, then download it again when it's finally on the download page.

Pointless post.
#79
Okay, I've downloaded it, thanks for the location.
Why is it called the Tibet Edition? Is it a reference to the Olympics Games this year in China and a lot of the uproar about China hosting the games because of how they control Tibet?

I was told there was now a new, stable(I think they meant stable anyway) of AGS that followed on from 3.0 but the download page still has 3.0 has the most recent one, so were they incorrect?
