It hit me recently that I haven't really played a whole lotta AGS games considering how many have been made over the years, so I was hoping you guys could give me some recommendations. I'm especially interested in the more out there stuff that does unusual things with the AGS engine, but feel free to suggest anything if you think it's worth playing.

Stuff I have played so far so don't bother mentioning them: the Wadjet Eye catalog, Yahtzee's Rob Blanc & Chzo Mythos series, Ben Jordan.
Quote from: CaptainDMy suspicion is that an accident, probably caused by a lightning storm and a mad professor, resulted in Amayirot's brain becoming inextricably linked to the databases behind MobyGames and LemonAmiga.

I avoid playing AGS games when I'm working on my own, so I still haven't had a chance to catch up (my play list looks much the same as yours), but Camp 1 is a definite must play.

Chicky

I'm particularly fond of the Apprentice games by Gregjazz/Herculean Effort. They're shorter than the tiles you've mentioned but worth a play. Also really liked the RodeKill games if they're still available and of course Pleurghburg: Dark Ages.

As for unusual engine use, I highly recommend Until I Have You by Dualnames and co, it's a platformer but refreshingly rich with story.

You might want to look out for Dustbowl too, a dystopian RPG/adventure hybrid.

To top it off, the Nelly Cootalot games are definitely worth picking up :)

Blondbraid

I'd recommend Emily Enough: Imprisoned, it's not just one of my favorite AGS-games, but one of my favorite games, period. It has great story and atmosphere, albeit very dark humor.

Ben There, Dan That! Is an absolute classic that I highly recommend.

AGD Interactive's remake of King's Quest 2 probably qualifies as "Must Play".

I would also put The Uncertainty Machine on the list.

Also Operation: FORKLIFT for something a bit different.

For the cream of the crop, you'll obviously want to go and check out: AGS Award Winners
If you're interested in games that do interesting stuff with the engine, make sure to check out the games that were nominated for or won "Best Programming" or "Best Non-Adventure". Some highlights among those are:
Colourwise by bicilotti
Adventures in the Galaxy of Fantabulous Wonderment by Yahtzee
Art of Theft by Yahtzee
TiLTOR
The Jackyard by Hofmeier
Plumberboy

One that appears to have skipped getting even nominated, but is really great, is IAMJASON

Aside from that, one of my personal favourites, although a fairly traditional adventure game, is The Winter Rose.
The ultimate Professional Amateur

Now, with his very own game: Alien Time Zone

Oh yes, and how can I forget Space Quest Incinerations, which I believe is the highest rated game in the database.

Gotta give Space Quest: Vohaul Strikes Back a mention too!

I don't know that any AGS games are "must-play" (billions of people somehow manage even though they haven't played a single one of them), but some personal favorites are:

Grr! Bearly Sane

What Linus Bruckman Sees When His Eyes Are Closed

A clear recommendation gets Abstauber's Aeronuts. An arcade action adventure, blending the best of both genres. Expect great 40 minutes.

Conspirocracy is also most definitely worth your time.

Donald Dowell is also a fantastic game with gorgeous art, good puzzles, and great humour.

I've heard good things about Cart Life.

And I suppose just about any game that's been remade using AGS is worth playing too. (nod)

Heroine's Quest was a whole bunch of fun with classical charm.
Living Nightmare series by Domithan is pretty sweet, but I confess I haven't gotten around to playing the last one yet:
Living Nightmare Deluxe
Living Nightmare: Endless Dreams
Living Nightmare: Freedom
I can't think of anything that hadn't been mentioned already right now, but when I do I'll spill.

Theyeyboss

You should definitely play A Second Face - The Eye of Geltz is watching Us if you didn't already!!!
I am actually surprised this game's not in here already.

Also, even though they're not really what you would call a "Must-play", I have some personal favorites, The Adventures of Stanley "Frankfurter" Jones and Frank Further: The Further Adventures of Stanley, The Knobbly Crook:Chapter I - The Horse You Sailed In On, the Murran Chronicles series, The Oracle(cause I'm portuguese), Lightning Master and The Man From Fugue State.
