My review on SCI Studio!

Well...AGS seems to not be the right program for me...due to the fact that Chris Jones has not even come up with a tool that has you check for latest updates in the program. AGS may be a little easier...but SCI Studio stands as an excellent program.

SCI Studio comes with the ability to...yes, compile your games into executables. But, a MS-DOS window like frame might cut for a lack of good graphical updates which are intended for the future. Windows Executable would help too, that would be good for choosing in when making the executable. If you are also smart, like me...then you would download the Graphic Studio as well...SCI Studio & AGS tie, but for some reason...SCI Studio is a little bit ahead of the competition.

Some people say that SCI Studio locks up on them...well, guess what...IT DOES NOT!

I would also like to add that, yes...you can create your own scenes & characters...but...guess what...with AGS, once you get done making them in Paint Shop Pro, MS-Paint, or whatever program you use...then you can import them into the editor.

SCI Graphic Studio is a wise download when using SCI Studio! In...SCI Graphic Studio...you are able to create your own characters, objects, scenes, etc.

Whenever you are done with that...then of course, it is time to take it to the studio & begin possibly either the long hours or months of production!

Pretty much...SCI Studio & Graphic Studio give you everything you need to make an excellent adventure game at your fingertips...weither you decide to use this or AGS, remember...that your imagination counts!!!

That is my latest review...thank you all for reading & happy gaming!

It might not for you, but it certainly does for me. Not only does it lock up but it crashes repeatedly when I'm browsing through the animations in a game.

Otherwise I agree that SCI Studio is a great program, in fact one of the best out there. I just prefer AGS cause it's simpler to use for inept programmers like myself.

Well...obviously there MIGHT be some bugs that need to be fixed in SCI Studio...but otherwise it runs fine & I am sure that it must have been a programming error. The next update for SCI Studio should be coming soon...but in other cases, the program itself is ok.

I have a rebuild program that rebuilds corrupt SCI creations to act normally without any crash or error...it also helps with the studio as well.

So, pretty much...your best bet is to find it & download it, but KEEP IT in the same directory as your SCI Studio main files are, so you can find it quicker when need be.

Can SCI studio handle 32 bit images with alpha support and a 640x480 resolution with support for AVI or MPEG movie playback and MP3 sound and have one of the greatest communities ever backing it up?

Or is it possible that they really can't be compared because they at this point in time have two totally different missions in life?

I don't see what SCI Studio has that AGS can't do besides it's own art program which, frankly, isn't all that much since I would rather use a program I know, like photoshop, to create art and not have to learn an entirely new art package.

I say we gather up the AGS community and set up a time/place to meet the SCI community and we get into a huge rumble!!

C'mon guys!!  I think we can take 'em!

At one point I downloaded SCI studio ... I think it was even before dl'ing AGS (or around the same time) ... I remember not liking it very much.

Then I downloaded AGS and the world just made sense.

** DM thumbs his nose at SCI Studio **

Hey man ... to each their own.  But if they're smart, they'll use AGS ;)

I never said I disliked AGS, I am just saying that SCI Studio has some better qualities than AGS.

I am not dissing AGS, if I waas then I would have had a title like..."AGS sucks balls!".

But, I didn't...I am just placing my opinion & review on SCI Studio...so quit cryin'!

sorry MrColossal, maybe i jumped to conclusions. Sorry about that.

The more you use AGS, the more you'll love it.

Quite a few people here use both, they both have advantages in different areas, They are both cool products. At the moment I'd say AGS has a lot more features, but it depends whether you've donated money to Brian to get SCI studio 4 (I haven't so I'm not sure of the features), When that's finished and released publically it might gain a few more members hence lift the community out of a stale dribble.

The free support and community at AGS can't be beaten by any other engine, and the engine tries it's best to be backwards compatible with operating systems, SCI get a bit screwwy in Win98 after a while and has to be restarted or the computer reset.

As for the graphics studio, It doesn't have nearly the features of a proper paint program, I can't see any reason why that would be an advantage for promoting an engine.

I used SCI for a while a few years ago after using AGI, then discovered AGS, it seems to be a natural progression, I still have a softspot for SCI, and occasionally Anonymously post in their forums, but it hasn't been updated publically for a year or something, and it's not something I would pay for when I can get AGS for free that gets updated every few weeks, Thanks Heaps CJ.

What the hell? really? how fecking hard can it be to either check the home page for an official release or the forums for beta releases?

Grr.

I've never used SCI, but if the features that make it better than AGS are update checker and internal paint program, well, that's not a great publicity, because the version checker of AGS consists on opening AGS website and the graphic editor could be one of the freeware draw programs that have a complete development team behind (gimp, pixia, draw plus...), so theres no sense to loose time developping an internal one IMO. If you don't tell me technical features it's difficult I will try SCI.

mmmh... Totoro looks at the AGS-games he downloaded so far... finds that all are exe-files... strange ???, maybe done with SCI Studio just pretending to be AGS games ?  ;)

That would be the best title for a thread, only cause it has "balls" in it (followed by an exclamation mark).
