On that note, how the hell is a video meant to give you a curse.

On that note, how the hell do you get cursed.

In other words, how the hell does someone watch a film without willfully suspending disbelief.

I don't know if anybody else is counting Anime...but

X : Beautiful graphics but horrible confusing story with stupid ending. I can understand killing off maybe one or two characters ...but everybody? Geeze.

Ok , back to non-Anime movies -

This is also why I hate The Cube : Everybody that was trapped inside died.  Horrible.

I love The Cell though ,  it has an interesting story and the "inside mind worlds" are amazing. She's so beautiful and a great actress , I'm surprised people would hate anything with her in it.
I can't remember what other movies she's been in though...I think Tomb Raider? I don't know about the latest TR movies since I haven't seen them yet but TR1 was pretty good , except for the part where the statues came to life...they could've worked harder on the special effects to make that sequence believable.  But the robot battle at the start was great.

I just watched The Cat In The Hat the other day and am very disappointed. Really stupid movie. I think Mike Myers is funny in other stuff but he was mostly just annoying in this movie.
The rest of the cast was great! Also I felt as though alot of the jokes were way too adult for something that should've been a kids movie in the first place  or not really very funny at all.
I loved How The Grinch Stole Christmas , though.

QuoteThat reminds me, the fellowship of the ring was one of the most magical movies i've ever seen, but TTT and ROTK where a bit zzzzz.
*leaps at you and strangles you by the throat*

QuoteI am an insane ravening foamy-mouthed Tolkien fan, so I have reasons both to like and dislike the LotR films. I won't bore you all to death with details.
Whohoo! WeÃ,  shall inherit the earth. ;P

So below I've decided to somewhat defend a little the movies which I think need defending.

Anyway, 1. I liked the Cube. I only say it once and that wasÃ,  when it was on TV. I think it showed deep insight to the sick way our society works and really thought it was cool. And yeah, most of them died and the writers did that to show a point. Anyway, that was years ago. Maybe if I saw it again I would change my mind, but I remember liking it. Reminds me of The Outer Limits shows that I always love to watch.

2. The Cell was alright too, working on disecting our inner minds and the sick ways they work. BTW, while I'm on the subject, what did ya'll think of Being John Malkovich and Mangolia? Seriously twisted movies which focus on the subjects stated above.

3. The Ring. An AWSOME movie, I LOVED IT! The girl in the movie made the tape. I think it had to do with her creating it out from some metaphysical state which she was gifted with due to her tormented mind. Very strange, but I just loved the whole thing.....except the very veryÃ,  end. If you havn't seen it and don't want to have it spoiled don't read the next line.

When she crawled out of the TV and killed that guy and then the woman making the tape with her son......that was *$#@ing retarded. It should have ended before that, ... "So......how long do you think someone could survive down there?"Ã,  ".........seven days..."

On one final final note, anyone who hasn't seen all the LotR movies should be handcuffed to a movie theater seat and be made to watch. And anyone who doesn't like them should be shot! :P Anyway, have a nice day and thank you for flying with us today!Ã,  ;D

Ryukage

Ninja Scroll.  90 minutes of demons randomly attacking this guy (who's not even a ninja) for no apparent reason, and then just when it looks like the story is finally going to start, the movie's over.  Also, a needless number of disturbing rape scenes.  Contrast this with Yotoden (aka Wrath of the Ninja): same exact plot, except Yotoden actually makes sense, and there's actually a reason the demons show up when and where they do.  Also, no rape scenes.

Akira. Only one thing to say about this one: WTF?

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.  It had nothing to do with the games whatsoever, and wasn't even halfway-decent as generic sci-fi.  (On a related note, Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals was terrible as well.  In fact, the only videogame-to-movie conversion that actually resulted in a decent movie was Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer.)

Austin Powers.  Ugh.  This one was so bad I didn't even give the sequels a chance.  The few parts that were actually funny were just minor bits that were over in a couple seconds, while they spent 10 or 20 tedious minutes at time on stupid, vulgar toilet humor.  And there wasn't even a discernable plot to tie the stupidity together.

Everything animated ever made by Disney and/or Pixar, and quite a few of their live-action films as well.  Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Star Trek: The Motion Picture.  Maybe everyone's blocked it out to protect their sanity.  It was so bad even trekkies hate it.  (For that matter, all of the odd-numbered Trek movies seem to be lousy.)

As for The Ring.. Making a copy of the tape saves you because you are spreading the girl (I forget her name) around so more people know about her.. Basically, she wants the whole world to know what happened to her.. I guess it may not make much sense to some people, but I think it made perfect sense (After a second and third viewing.)

It made perfect sense to me the first time. My point was - who the hell is going to make a movie on such a STUPID premise? It doesn't even make anything CLOSE to common-sense.... good movies need a logical explanation. The Ring didn't have one. In fact, the ring had NOTHING. I don't understand why it was given such a good rating.

Copying a video = HOORAY! YOU LIVE! CONGRATULATION! wow - what a crowd please... ::)

Normally I prefer to be positive rather than negative. But I'll make an exception:

Any film by James 'Worst Human Alive' Cameron.

To be fair, I haven't seen all of his films, but come on - he's the worst human alive. At least the worst film director, and what's more important than films?

Peter Thomas

I'd say milk is by FAR more nutritional than a film...

But the question was what's more IMPORTANT, not more nutritional. :P

Anyway, I'd say TV was more important, since so much more of it is produced. I don't mean this is a good thing - 99.99% of it is shit - but good TV is likely to reach more people than a good film, so you'd think it's be more important to but time & effort into quality TV.

I don't know about ANY film by Cameron, but I'll grant you all those in recent memory. Also, I'll grant that he is indeed 'King of the Assholes'.

And I'd like to add to my earlier list 'FearDotCom'. Looked vaguely interesting, was actually a very bad Ring ripoff.

Aww.. What's the matter.. Does itty bitty Ryukage not want to admit that some cartoons can be watched and enjoyed by males? Awwwwww.. How sweet.. He's trying to be all grown up and manly. How can you say every animated Disney movie is dumb? Have you watched them all? Do you have any idea how much work went into each film (Except for the latest, crappy-ass ones) Pinocchio, Robin Hood, Black Cauldron, Aladdin.. All of em' well done animated films.

And how dare you say Pixar's films are dumb.. Again.. Have you WATCHED any of them? IMO.. The only dumb Pixar movie was Bugs Life.. But Finding Nemo.. and Monsters Inc.. Wow.. If you can't like those films you must be one very depressing individual..

But then again, it's just what I like, not you.. but if you haven't watched any of those films.. Then you're opinion isn't very credible.

BTW.. What does your signature mean? Were you born in 1996? Cause your profile says you're 23...

I agree, for the most part, old Disney = good, new Disney = bad.

But the Pixar stuff ... I haven't seen any of them, and don't intend to. They just don't appeal to me in the slightest, but I wouldn't have a problem with them if it weren't for (and LGM I don't mean to be rude here) people saying 'Oh, if you don't like these films there must be something wrong with you'. It's not that I have a problem with adults liking kids films, it's just that most of them don't look any good to me.

Sorry if this reads like a rant, but I have a friend who keeps trying to drag me to every single damn kiddy film that comes out, so it's a topic that pushes buttons, is all.

EDIT: I just realised this is about the third thread I've posted in 'arguing' with LGM. Sorry about that, it's nothing personal.
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

LGM

hehe.. It's alright.. Debating is healthy ;)

I'm just saying.. the Pixar movies are great because the humour in them is hard to come by in even Live action films.. I suggest watching Finding Nemo, even if it doesn't "appeal" to you... My Dad didn't want to see it, but then he did and he liked it.. So yea..

Considering his avatar and post implies he likes anime I don't think that is the case LGM. Also, what does the amount of work spent on a movie matter? Final Fantasy sucked no matter how hard they worked on it.

Ashen

But I think with Final Fantasy, most of the time was spent on modeling the graphics, which were pretty darn good, while the script seemed to have been hashed out in a weekend. Anyway, I don't think LGM was talking about the time put into them, as much as the care and desire to make a good film, rather than shed loads of money as seems to be the case now.

Yeah, They certainly spent a long time making the script for Black Cauldron as good as they could, and it certainly wasn't made simply to cash in money from the teenage theatre going crowd who were growing too old to watch the regular Disney movies.

Anyway, I got what LGM meant. I used Final Fantasy as an example since LGM didn't comment about it and I thus figured he didn't like it either. I'm sure they tried their best to make it a good movie though.

Anime is the devil. Seriously. I can't stand it. And its not just the feminin way everything is drawn either (guys looks more like girls than the girls do. :P) Its how everything has to be INTENSE ALL THE TIME! Its like a bad soapopera comic strip (anyone know what I mean, we have a few in the papper over here) where EVERYTHING has to have a ! at the end! because ! everything is always ! exciting and at the climax! all the time! *sweatdrops* HUH?!? >.>                 Yeah, so I really really really hate anime. :D But I know that alot of ya'll love it. I'm not really excited by Disney films either, I guess I was when I was younge. I think I liked Little Meremaid, Aladdin and....umm...*scratches head* well I'me sure that I saw others too. However, I do like Pixar films. Expecially their short snipits. Lmfao, if you don't know what I mean, they show these little films before the main presentation. A guy playing chess with himself and a bunch of disgruntled birds all sitting on a telephone pole. They are halarious, but, I digress. This post has gone on long enough.

Nice generalization - "I saw 2 anime with guys that looked like girls and big !'s, therefore ALL ANIME IN THE ENTIRE WORLD is like that". I could say "Rock V sucked, therefore all movies suck." But fair enough... some anime does suck.

Does this guy look feminine? http://www.projectbag.com/ghost/pics/aramaki06.jpg

No, and do you know why? Because they are gray-haired old foogies. (spelling?) Most guys, expecially kids or main characters have narrow chins, thin lips and huge gigantic eyes. And yeah, it is sort of steriotypical, but then again, most anime is so .....well....TYPICAL.. Im sure there are lots of exceptions out there, but thats not the norm.

Rave:
I think it depends on what you mean by 'the norm'. I've got a friend who's quite into anime, and as far as I can tell there are two quite different styles - one that you're talking about, which is very 'cartoon-y' and exagerated, and one which is more realistic, like TheDude said. That's a little over simplified, though, and I think most stuff falls in the middle - so if you want to see it as crappy, toony anime, you'll mostly pick up on those elements, while if you just want to enjoy the story, you won't. The other possiblity is you're getting 'proper' anime confused with the pokemon-style crap that seems to be all over the place. This stuff IS the devil, yes.
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

Trapezoid

I tend to agree with some of his other points... Anime is usually too damn melodramatic and intense, which annoys me. Comedic anime tends to be far too off the wall and incoherent (it just doesn't translate over into English very well, IMO.) Most anime I've been shown didn't hold my interest, and I think it's overrated, as a genre.
(I do really like Hayao Miyazaki's movies, though.)
