I would... I am curious about it...

I'm going to have it on the web, by Tuesday. But only if people give me support, otherwise it's not going on there. Also it's not the full game, only what i've done already. And it's only the first half of melee island(not meaning the landscape, that's all there) because that's the only part which is nearly perfect. The second half is very buggy. The only problem with the first half is the sword fighting. Not the sword master, that's perfect, I mean the pirates, there too clever for there own good.

So i'll give you link of the website, on Tuesday, but only if you give some support.

I would download it

Mats Berglinn

Maybe I would download it. But not if the graphics and sprites are the same as the original because I got Secret of Monkey Island on CD-rom.

BTW, ags_guy... What's this of demmanding support for uploading a game or not? Do whatever you want, it should be a nice presentation card, but don't expect 900 replies demmanding "pliz, I want to see it!!!1!"...

Don't wanna seem harsh, but I think this is a little bit ridiculous, "show me support and I'll upload it"... AGS is not about that, I think.

Yes, your right. My apologies. But before, people were bad mouthing my idea, really bad. And for all the work i've done, I just think that's damm right rude.

When saying I want support, what I really mean is I don't want anyone dising the idea.

You're taking this waaaay too personally. Chill out. Like I said, remaking something like this is GREAT for learning AGS... but not for releasing, as it serves no real purpose. that's all we've been trying to say to you. Of course we're interested in your project, but not as a remake of Monkey Island - rather, as a result of a programming experiment which we can evaluate (and of course we WILL evaluate, because we're talking about a classic). Believe me, if it's good and bug-less, your standing in the community will increase that much more. But that's all the good it'll do. We've only been telling you that there's no real point in remaking it without any other goal.

Let me give you an example - I've been fidling with the idea of making a CD player with AGS. And I mean shufflin tracks, programming them... the whole works. It could be done, and I even know how. But... what's the point? Everybody's got Media Player...

Yes, you've got a point. Everone forget what I said, about putting apart of MI on the internet. It's over.

But before I go, I have to say, that I take nothing personal, at all. I wasn't arguing with anyone. I was debating. And I don't think there's anything, wrong with that. You told me something that I disagreed with, so I put my point across, the same you did when I told about the whole remaking MI thing. So please don't ecuse me, of something i'm not doing. Thankyou. And please don't take that so personal, redruM.

MrColossal

it seems first you're just throwing the idea out there and then all of the sudden you have the first part made. did you start working on this and then ask if people would like it?

also:

"I know AGS can do it, it just hasn't yet. The whole point of remaking MI would be to see it in another light, a different light. A light us game adventures lovers would be prould to see."

I know AGS can do it to... It's obvious AGS can do it, it could do it for about 2 years now. There is no new light to look at MI through if you're taking the same exact art/story/animations/music/puzzles and just porting it to AGS. It just makes no sense... Does this mean I'm calling you a moron and a fool for doing this? No, do whatever you want and thousands of people will download it. I'm just saying maybe your time would be better spent making your own game. Doesn't MI inspire you to make a game that is your own? With your own story and your own characters exploring your own world?

The majority of us have MI and we've played it tons of times, the only thing porting it to AGS would do is get you into copyright trouble and be a huge drain on your free time. Making it free is NOT a good reason. Do you not think it's worth it to buy?

also to answer your question: Has any one ever remade Monkey Island?

Yes, Lucasarts did, they remade it into 256 colours, which had a point, it updated the look of the game.

It's a form of polling, which, like chat rooms, we don't like on forums.

I still agree with whoever said it last, MI doesn't need to be remade. Establish your name within the community by making an original game first off.

:)

An original idea, you say.
Well i've thought of making one of those RON games. I've even thought of the story. You see, what happens is that you, the chicken, have just the shot the sheriff. Running away, you see Davy. You tell him about you, shooting the sheriff, and he tells you, that he knows a spell which can make you, go back in time. As going back in time, you could then not shoot the sheriff. But the going back in time spell makes you think, that you could use the spell to go back in time, to save your brother Fred. Anyway not the mess up all of RON's history, i've thought of an idea to kill Fred at the end.

Does that sound like a good idea to anyone?

Note: If you haven't played RON games, then you won't know what the hell, i'm talking about. So go to http://ron.the-underdogs.org/ to find out.

Legal issues with LucasArts aside, it might be a fun idea to remake Monkey Island, but with a start menu like at the beginning of Part Two...
- "Normal (Easy) Mode" (which would be the original)
- "Challenging Mode" (with many more puzzles to make it more entertaining for those who have already played the original)

There are so many locations (the back alley, the town, the jungle, the forest) that could be explored further... and just imagine replacing the hilarious, but somewhat surreal off-screen sequence in the governor's mansion ("use wax lips on rhino" or whatever it was) with a real puzzle...

Well, I'd like it, anyway.

*starts dreaming about a MI where the lookout at the start won't let you into town until you've performed some sort of service for him*

EDIT
As long as it's not something like this...

MrColossal

as far as RON and time travel is concerned, I'm making a RON game involving time travel and the chicken and his brother so it might not be a good idea to do that.

And I'm actually building a time machine with my brother out of chickens.

No wait a minute, that wasn't what I meant to say...

AGS_Guy, if you come up with a synopsis for an original plot then post in the Critic's Lounge to get feedback and constructive criticism.

And I'm glad you didn't take my earlier post personally.
