Okay this is just a concept at the moment, I wonder if anyone has come up with it before?

I think the BBC TV Comedy Blackadder would make a great game. It's full of witty 1-liner humour, whilst having a dark twist to it.

The gameplay could be a mixture of 2 Lucas Arts classics:

Sam & Max: It would have 2 characters walking around together, Blackadder, who the player controls, and Baldrick, who would act like Max, being used (and abused) when needed. They make a great double-act on the show and Blackadder's cruelty to Baldrick would be great in a cartoony style game.

Day of the Tentacle: There are 4 series' of Blackadder on TV. A Medievil one, an Elizabethan one, a 19th century one, and a World War 1 one. In each he has both a different setting and a different role, while maintaining the same witty but dark character. If the player could swap which Blackadder they play at will, like in DoTT, it would be a great addition to the game. Of course this would involve quite a complex story design. Obviously, he can't use toilets to transfer items, but I'm sure some of the creative people here could come up with a better way.

Blackadder is always getting into trouble, and always finds some bizarre way of getting out of it, which I think would transfer wonderfully to the adventure game genre.

What do you all think about the idea?

sounds good! I'm sure you'll enjoy doing "research" for this game ;)

Mr Flibble

Sounds good!
You could have Series 1 Edmund change something or do something in order to let future Blackadder's progress!
Like Hoagie cutting the tree down to free Laverne.
I don't suppose item swapping would be neccessary.
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

It'd be hard to capture the quality of humour in that show. I've watched my DVD set countless times, and it would be awesome to see some new adventures with my favorite Edmunds.

The graphics would have to be pretty realistic too. A cartoony, DOTT or Sam and Max art-style would definatley not suit the game.

Cluey

It may, the BBC recently had a show called Britains best sitcom, and they had cartoony characters in the background, the blackadder one looked really cool, so a cartoony version may work, BUT, you'd have to capture his "look" that sarcastic look he has.

My webcomic.

Heheh, I'm not actually gonna make this game, I'm waaaay too lacking in the talent department for that. I was just throwing the idea out there for anyone who wants to give it a try :)

Skio

How about a MARRIED WITH CHILDREN game?
Î'νδρων Επιφανων Πασα Î"η ΤαφοÏ,

Mr Flibble

That wouldn't work.
The word " AL!!!!" loses the effect in text.

i think youre wrong here, the characters in the show could be done really quite well in a DOTT/sam and max style.

I agree. It's not as if the shows looked realistic, why should the graphics?

To paraphrase Blackadder:

"So this is where it ends ... on an unrealistic grassy knoll."

If you're having trouble fitting together the plots for a DOTT style game, buy Blackadder the Whole Damn Dynasty...

It contains all the scripts and has introductions that chart the progress of the Blackadder family in between the series - explaining how a decendent of George IV (actually Mr B)  became a captain in the British Army in WW1 and so on.

It also has Baldrick's family tree showing an unmistakeable link to Gazza. Plus money from it goes to Comic Relief.

You COULD use a toilet to flush things through time; in Blackadder Back and Forth the modern day Baldric invented a time machine from a wooden toilet!

Mr Flibble

It would be better if you could pass things forward, but not back.

For example.
Blackadder I leaves an item,...lets say a goblet, in a safe and secure place.
Blackadder II, III or IV could then go to that place and pick it up.

And if B1 wants it back again, B2,3 or 4 would lose it, and anything they did with it.

That would be a NIGHTMARE to script though.

YOke

Not really a nightmare, since you decide what you will allow a previous Blackadder to retrieve.
If you dismiss all other historical implications you could have great fun with it.

Example: Blackadder I plants a tree. Blackadder II chops down the tree and makes planks out of it to be used in the floor of a bakery. Blackadder I takes the seed back and Blackadder III can wait underneath the bakery, now turned bank, for the safe to fall down through the floor that isn't there anymore.

Enlightenment is not something you earn, it's something you pay for the rest of your life.

Okay Yoke. After we finish our AGS challenge, it's time for us to make a time-travel game together!!

Peefy

Does anyone elser start to think of "Day of the Tentacle"?

Oh, and BlackAdder would do well as an adventuire game I think.

Jimi

dude! a blackadder game would be great! but like peefy said, its beginning to sound very much like DOTT.

Privateer Puddin'

Since Blackadder started about 10 years before DOTT was released, i'd say DOTT sounds like Blackadder ;)

Jimi

Yeah, but blackadder didn't plant things in the past so that the future Blackadder could find it.

Privateer Puddin'

oh sorry Jimi, didn't realise i had to put a [/sarcasm] in
