Don't you like Beer?!?

As a break from the rough and tumble DEBATE thread, I thought maybe we could each take a stand on beer.  For my part, I'd like to say: Isn't beer great?  I know this is a controversial opinion.

Now this isn't a drunk post.  I just seriously like beer.  Someone said in another thread that Australian beer is good.  I've only had Fosters, and I've heard that Fosters is a joke in Australia.  Is that true?  I don't really like it at all.  Name some good Australian beers.  Name some good English or Scottish beers.  I'd like to know.

And for everyone that wants to bash on American beer...yes, the big corporate beer companies produce crap, but there are some top notch micro brews and smaller company beers in America that will stand up to a lot of European brews.

So, um, beer? Anybody?  Beer?

I've really tried to like beer. I poured up a big glass once and sat with it the whole evening. I just couldn't drink more than a sip at a time without making a face! So I've come to the conclusion that beer's just disgusting!

I have to stick with cider instead. Or maybe vodka and tequila if I really wanna get down! ;)

Anarcho

Beer is an acquired taste.  I like cider too though.  I made some homemade cider once with some regular old Mott's apple juice, and some beer yeast.  It didn't taste so bad.

Beer just tastes.......wierd and is really bad for me even though I'm at this age.
Moving at superhigh speed getting to the planet called Earth. But it is boxed in white......thing.....

Anarcho

Ok.  I know there are plenty "of age" people on this board that appreciate beer.  Right?  Come on.  Please?

Hey,

I'm of age, 23 on September 13th to be exact...

However beer tastes like sweaty balls and urine. Wine dries the hell out of my mouth and tricks me for looking like grape juice.

The only wine I've been able to drink and actually enjoy was Plum Wine when my girl and I went out for dinner on our anniversary.

Just wait for CJ to respond, he'll say something about Fosters and then say how great it is and then say that AGA is stupid or something.
"This must be a good time to live in, since Eric bothers to stay here at all"-CJ also: ACHTUNG FRANZ!

I was 3.... (*ahem*) on 4th September but I don't like beer either, it tastes horrible to be, I like regular wines though.

Shattered Sponge

Your english is very good for a toddler, Gilbot; but I'm not sure I approve of your drinking alcohol at such an age.

During my alchoholism period 3 years ago I used to say:
"I don't like or need beer. Coca-cola tastes much better. When I need refreshing drink, I'll drink coke. When I want to get drunk, pure vodka. When I want to f**k myself up, I'll mix these two."

Well, that works just fine for me.

Mr Jake

But... Fosters IS great and AGA IS stupid....

Beer is great, I enjoy drinking beers from all over the world, Australian beers are good, but as with most countries, the mass produced beers are not as good as the less commercial one's (excluding Guinness, [although I'm sure there are better beers in Ireland that I've never had])

In Aus the popular beers differ between states but the main ones are Victoria Bitter (VB), Tooheys New (new) and XXXX (four x) and are standard tap beers in pubs (although XXXX is a Queensland beer and tastes like shit)

Carlton Draught is an alternative to the other 3 which I prefer, but it's still not my favourite but a cheap beer.

Tooheys Old can be good for a change up occasionally, it's a Stout beer.

Tasmania produces better beers eg. Cascade, and Boags, The Cascade Brewery is the oldest brewery in Australia.

My favourite Australian beer comes from South Australia, Coopers, they have a variety of beers, more a home brew style taste.

International beers I like include Guinness and Kilkenny, more acquired tasting beers, but once you've acquired that taste every now and then that little voice in your head tells you to drink it. Malty thick type beers go off,

Stella Artois is another I quite like.

And it is true that Forster's isn't that popular in Australia, its not even on taps in most bars. It would have to make its money overseas or it would go broke (probably not but I don't know anyone who drinks it [in Australia]).

I had quite a  beer drinking weekend this weekend, Friday, Saturday and a few quite ones Sunday evening. I haven't done that for a while, but a good unplanned weekend.

I like beer threads, but most people around here are either too young, don't like beer or are recovering alcoholics.

I love beer from an artisans point of view [I home brew].

I just came back from Tasmania where I toured both the Boags and Cascade brewerys, they're very very good.

I have only tried Fosters once in 19 years in Australia, and that was imported from Hong Kong via the phillipines. I don't know of any pubs where you can get it, although there are many where a beer such as Stella or other imported beers can be got.

Stella is alright, but it's reputation is larger than it deserves.

I prefer darker beers, but I don't mind lagers and draughts, and there's not much choice in an Australian summer.

Budweiser is the worst beer I've tried. It has to be the worst thing about prohibition that it wiped out most of the brewing knowledge of the United States, which largely came from Germany, and was thus very good, and left only industrial beers like this.

The other night my brother asked what I wanted to drink, I told him to surprise me. He came back with a Tooheys New with Raspberry in it. Against all logic, and what my heart and mind told me would be the case, it worked.

Life is full of mysteries, and anything could improve New.

I, by my nature, am against that things "you gotta get used to it" before liking it (I.E. Smoking, coffee, sardines, anal sex...) and beer was in this group. But I drank once a cooool beer in a hooooot summer day and it was very refresing, nothing to see with the flavour that I remembered when I tried to "getused to it" when I was younger. I tasted more marks, and, call it nostalgia, but the first one I tasted is my favourite, and it's "Heinekeen".

Of course, if a purist like CJ, comes to me saying "That is just dirty water, taste a real tasty black irish beer, or this australian devil killer, blurp!!!11!" I would have to admit that, yeah, stronger beers may be better (for purists) but I preffer my mild ones, because I use it as a refresh.

It is like mixing whisky with soda. Dad says it's sacrillege, that whisky must just be mixed up with 2 or 3 drops of spring water, and I am pissing a good scotch whisky with the cola, but I preffer it.
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Inkoddi

I never even tried beer...

The End also
toot

Crash

Boags Draught.

Greatest beer ever.
I'm not *that* inbred!

*Sigh*...
I see, there's no beer culture outside of Bavaria (alright, maybe in Ireland, but only maybe) or you wouldn't talk like that!
Personally, I do like beer very much, more than any other alcoholic beverage (without being an alcoholic, I'd say... But one beer a day or so is ok, isn't it?) .
Here's my personal list of favourite beers:
1) Eichhofener Dunkel (Dark beer, very smooth)
2) Kneitinger Bock (Also dark, sweet and very strong)
3) Schneider Weizen Dunkel/Hell (Wheat beer, more refreshing)
4) any other Bavarian beer
5) Guinness (sp?)

Should any of you beer-fearers come upon one of the beers mentioned in that list, you will be cured...

P.S: Beer is the purest beverage/food in Germany (no chemicals, additives, preservatives, etc!)
P.P.S: Dark beer is very healthy: e.g. One Pint cancels the effect of one pack of cigarettes!

I will taste that... I remember that I liked a dark beer once, but it's not easy to find...  :)

That must be a Spanish problem, you barbarians.

Every single pub I know has dark and lighter beers, even though more people drink the draughts.
