Family Guy is brainwashing otherwise perfectly intelligent people into thinking they're watching a quality product.
The only likely conclusion...

ALIEN INVASION SCHEME!

I don't people are saying it's "quality" as such. It's not something that's pushing the boundries of animation. But I do think Seth MacFarlane knows how to write and tell a good joke.

Let me put it this way: I think it's fresher and funnier than the majority of shows out there. Given that we have a zillion generic sitcoms out there (Joey/Two and a Half men/King of Queens/According to Jim) that are about as funny as a fractured fart, I'm happy to have Family Guy on the airwaves.

I say that "Family Guy" and "Futurama" are way better than the Simpsons right now.Ã,  Family Guy has a huge slapstick content, and that's how it's always been.Ã,  The Simpsons changed way too much, so it's not a classic anymore.Ã,

About Futurama, it shouldn't have been cancelled in the first place, it was on my "favorites list" ever since it aired.Ã,  Bring it back! BRING IT BACK!Ã,  Ã,
Cool stuff I found out: Men are four times more likely to be struck by lightning than women.  Wow, really? [dirty joke] Maybe this has to do with the fact that us men have "lightning rods"? [/dirty joke]

MrColossal

If something goes on for too long people say "End it now!"

If something gets canceled people say "Bring it back!"

Futurama had a real good run and is still quite popular. Why can't people enjoy it for what it is and not wish it to go on for 16 seasons.

Eric is right. If futurama had run any longer, then it would have turned into the simpsons/flintstones fiasco. The thing that sucks is that it ran for so long but not many really noticed until the DVDs came out because (at least here in the USA) the show kept changing times or cancelled because of NFL games.

However, I would have liked to see some closure to the show, instead of ending it abruptly. Or at least not end it with that one episode where Fry makes a deal with the devil...

Another similar Fox show that has "jumped the shark" is That 70's Show. It should have ended last season, but instead the producers decided to go on without two of the main characters (Eric and Kelso). I would rather have the show end well that keep going since I'm not watching it anymore, anyway.

It'll probably turn bad after a while, but right now I say give it a chance.  It would be fun to see some closure like Edmundo said, but I would also like to see some more Futurama before it ends.

But... There was closure... To the only bit of story that needed any.

The last episode didn't hit me as an end to all of the Futurama series.Ã,  In that episode, everything goes back to normal in the end,Ã,  which leaves space for more stories.Ã,  Ã,

Anyways, I won't be that dissapointed if they decide not to make the show anymore, it's good enought as it is,  but I would be interrested in seeing more.

I must say I am a big fan of futurama and I am quite happy with the honorable end. And it does have a closure, it's quite obvious that Phillip finally gets the girl.

OR DOES HE... ?

On another note, there's still the comics, so Futurama hasn't actually ended.

OR DOES HE... ?

Indeed. He has "got the girl" in several earlier episodes most notably around Valentine's day, not to mention having married her in one episode, and each time it didn't work.

Anyway it's mainly a matter of jumping the shark. Shows shouldn't go on too long, and the Simpsons has been overdoing it a bit. I'm not sure what season they're actually showing here, but I've seen a couple of episodes last month that I didn't find at all interesting; and I recently bought the season-3 DVD and it's great.

I'm rather in doubt as to whether Futurama should have continued. Season five has a number of episodes that are among the best (e.g. the Farnsworth Parabox or the final ep) but also a number that were just rather bland (e.g. the cryogenic dog or the transgender bender). IMHO, of course.

Nacho

As you said, a matter of opinions, because for me the cryogenic dog is the kind of emotional chapter that definitevelly gives Futurama more depth and appealing than the Simpsons.  :)

Family Guy is nothing but references and jokes about injuries or stupid people. Like: Peter suddenly falling down the stairs, throwing up because he drank a bottle of Ipecac, and any episode ever, because they all have references. It's not even funny.
Besides to the absolutely correct comments by Darth, I have to add:
Stupid people are funny!
And there are not so many things about injuries as you say.
Well, I haven't seen the whole episode with the ipecac (2 years, see above), but I saw this very clip and I was horrified!
But these are just some exceptions, the show mostly rules!

I hope it gets cancelled, and I hope you come to your senses before it does, Thomas.
Well, I'll never!

About the futurama end:
In the audio commentary, they said they made an ending in wich he, more or less, gets the girl, but they wasn't sure, if they really would cancel the show, so they kept the possibillity for more stories.

@DGMacphee: Don't say anything against King of Queens!

QuoteFuturama had a real good run and is still quite popular. Why can't people enjoy it for what it is and not wish it to go on for 16 seasons.

Because when it came out, i didn't understand any of the jokes.  Atleast with the simpsons I get non-cable reruns of old episodes which i can now understand and appreciate.

The way family guy does references and transitions are terrible.  Every once in a while they'll do something funny and get me to lagh, but then lose me with something else.  They'll be in the middle of doing something, and then say something like "Oh no, what if ____ happens like in ____?!" and actually show what would happen, or what did happen--Only in a totally non funny way.  Stupid people may be funny, but peter gryphon is no homer simpson.  Peter gryphon is "Testicles.  Vagina."  Homer is "Extended warranty?  How can i go wrong?"  Homer says funny things, and his flashes of brilliance only make him funnier.  The Simpsons is going wrong in a way that probably not alot of people see, but it's becoming more like family guy.  People like The Simpsons for different reasons; they are going to say that the show's going in the crapper, but still watch the abomination known as Family Guy.  Family Guy has plenty of people-being-hurt humor, alot more than you think.  They have those overly-fast frames of people being hit, wine bottles being smashed, things crashing, ect., and it bothers me to no limit.  Now, just don't let me get started on "American Dad"... ugh...

Tom S. Fox

First of all, the name is spelled "Griffin".
And besides:
Peter is no Homer, but he was never supposed to be one.
And I can't see, how anybody can't laugh about the cutouts.
Unfortunately, I never saw "American Dad", since it was never aired in germany and I don't know where I can get DVDs, but I bet, you just can't handle the social critism.

IM NOT TEH SPAM

Believe me, i have no problem with any kind of social criticism, and when i do most of the time i'm wrong anyway.  But american dad is just... bad.  The american dad isn't really an american dad.  He works for the CIA, acts patriotic, and cares nothing about anything else.  It makesme so I want to hit him with a hammer.  Really hard.  In the face.  If it was criticizing an actual american dad, not some wannabe patriot, then sure, your point would work.  But the show is really just... bad.

Tom S. Fox

Well, I can't really judge it, since I never saw it, therefore I can't definitely claim that you are wrong in this point.
