A lot of effort involved, but the dimensions of the car look very iffy to me. Not to take anything from him, but i really wouldnt spend the time in MSPaint to draw something like that just to prove a point.

Those that can't criticise, those that can do.
I don't understand this. Can you rephrase?

I think he means "those who can't, criticize; those who can, do"

That's a shame and an ill missconception!

Helm, Eric, Dan Clarke, all have amazing skills in art! And DO, definately DO, so... :-/

Helm

Candle, is that what you mean?

Naa I'm drawing a car.

You can't answer a simple question with a direct answer that doesn't involve a huge dubious smiley?

For starters the guy has skill!

But what this brought to my attention wasn't one artist and his car.  (someone said this could have taken him two hours, with fraps I say this could have taken him weeks)   Like those Mario videos that everybody got all hyped up about - they forgot that anybody could save in emulators and take as many shots as possible in any given level and combine the video into one seemless file.

BUT!   I like the concept of frapsing (sp?) the process of drawing.     So let's see more of that, eh?   What say you?

Come on Helm, your smarter then that to know what I mean.

Its annoying when people make horrible art in MS Paint and blame it on the program because I use it for EVERYTHING I make and I like to think that my stuff comes out quite nicely, if not professional but above the par of most AGS games.

But why bother sticking with MSPaint? You'd just waste time and cause yourself unnecessary aggravation.
Play pen and paper D&D? Then try DM Genie - software for Dungeons and Dragons!

This is an amusing video, but I find cars and the drawing of cars immensely dull.

To head-off a problem, I think this means: "Come on Helm, you're smart enough to know what I mean."

I also think it's perfectly acceptable to criticise something you can't do. I can't sing, but I know James Blunt's songs are awful.

Since he relies so heavily on the curve command, I'd say he's taking shortcuts most real pixel artists wouldn't. It takes good technique to draw a smooth looking curve in low res. Between using curves at a higher res and the video compression, he bypasses AA and other techniques. He could also save a lot of time if he bothered learning keyboard shortcuts. Oh, wait that would be cheating, right, since it makes it easier.

From a less specific art standpoint, his piece is uninteresting. He picks his colors when he's working against a white background, which will monkey with the perception of other values. Some of the lighting is weird, since the front windshield has a glare from a backlight, yet the hood doesn't show this. It's fairly obvious he's drawing from a photo reference. At the same time, I've never seen a sports car look so drab and unexciting.

If you want to use the novelty of a shitty program, there are worse out there. Some of my first experiments with pixel were done in a QBasic program that used the arrow keys to move the cursor (+ and - to change colors between the default EGA palette).

I would speculate that he hasn't posted the BMP anywhere because it looks significantly underwhelming at full size without compression.
