His name is Bobby and he is bald, wears a green cheap tunic and needs your opinion (and probably a better shading) before he learns to walk and to talk

Couple of quick hints.

Never use bright magenta as a background when drawing sprites. Some midgray with a hint of some color would be better for this.

You need a better skin color and more contrast to the shading. Search the critics lounge (or google) for "pillow shading" and you should find out how to improve your shading.

Also handy:

Add width and height to the image tag, so the image shows up bigger.

I don't really see what's wrong with the current shading. I think it's best to keep it nice and simple. It will be easier to animate then.

I feel the shading/lights are a bit bogus and I was trying to get them right before adding items to/ animating the green fellow, but if they seem right it no problem then. In the meantime I made the skin colour lighter.

edit: the head is particulary difficult. So small that if you place a simple lighter pixel it seems a cubist canvas.

I didn't do the face (you're right it's the hardest part  ;D) but I did make some simple changes to the tunic.

I'm not the best artist, but I tried to make the shadows look like there's a lightsource from the right.

Very nice job! It looks "real" now, a real canvas tunic! I'll try to work on these guidelines for the face shading too.

Buckethead

oh silly me, I thought he was wearing trouwsers...

*runs of to buy glasses*

Dualnames

Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Jim, reading the first post would suggest that it was intended to be a tunic.

Anyway, a quick edit from me. For fun basically.

Nice edit, Ben!

Two major improvements if you'd ask me:
- Less saturated colours
- Less symmetry: the picture doesn't look like it's mirrored horizontically, which makes it a bit more exciting to look at.

indeed! and the flesh colour / head shading looks covincing now. I've learn much from it, thank you Ben (and by the way, congrats for your "Trance Pacific". You and Paolo made a terrific game out of an interesting idea, loved it).

ThreeOhFour

Why, thankyou.

Glad you like the edit :).
