I got a virus yesterday and it is really pissing my off as I have had to reinstall my operating system and all my other programs. I went back on the internet this morning and the bastard came back again!!!

I looked on the Symantec website and found it was called "VBS.Terrosist". You can get it from looking at infected sites so I thought I would just warn anybody in case they got it.

thanks i'll keep a look out for it

Eero

I made a VBS virus, what changes Internet Explorer's title bar... :P

Fuzzpilz

Solution: don't use IE. Which is also the solution to many, many other problems. Get Mozilla or Opera, you won't regret it.

Trapezoid

I've tried Mozilla. It was exactly the same as IE, only I couldn't use the Back/Forward buttons on my mouse.
So I stopped. I still don't have any viri...

jannar85

I've got a trojan which opened and closed my cd-rom. Quite funny for a trojan, and it didn't do much more. Heh... I liked it a lot. :D

Thanks for the warning though.
Veteran, writer... with loads of unreleased games. Work in progress.

Fuzzpilz

Erm, Trapezoid... I think what you tried wasn't Mozilla, it was in fact IE. It's the only explanation I can think of.

jannar: sounds like netbus to me. That means some random bloke was sitting at his comp clicking open cd drive, close cd drive...

I tried hacking my friend with netbus when I was 11 (with his consent). I kinda forgot to send him the trojan executable tho, so my plan never came to fruition.

We once had a plan to install netbus on every PC in our school computer room, plus on a pc outside the room, then open all the CD drives at once during a lesson lol.

But that never happened.

Yeah I was planning to hack my school, but fortunately for me, since I had never heard of the words 'firewall' and 'ip trace', I never carried that out.

a virus ain't much bitchin about. reinstalling and stuff isn't that big o' a prob. I got a freaking virus that fucked up my motherboard once (and yes, you have to buy a new one)! now, that's one heck of a virus!

read about it on the internet, and got it a few days later. they said it was the worst one ever made so far!
Signature. I know what that is! It's a state in the USA. right?

Thats one of my senior pranks. All of the school pc's in my city are under the same server. I can almost access all of the accounts including teachers. I plan to set a timer so that a printer prints like 100 pages of porn durring a class :P. And since it is on a school pc they trace it to themselves. Thats prank #1. #2 is to get proud to be homosexual bumperstickers and put them on the teachers cars :)

Unfrtunatley myself and a couple of friends were deemed to be the notorius hackers at school. We cracked their security prog, they used one of those things where you get limited icons, apps etc.

We found all the shortcuts and my friend Adrian cracked the shitty prog and found out all the passwords.

We then got banned from the library for 4 months, and banned from all the PC's in school for about a year. LOL.

Those were the days. For the next couple of years little kids kept coming up to me when I was in 6th form saying, "are you the one that hacked teh school!11111" and I was like, "no, i was the stupid one that made a word document to explain to everyone how to do it and left it lying on every pc".

Mods I have a propositition to make :)... No really, my current hacker is a little... Messed... Ok a lot messed...

Eggie

Wow. If you ever pull that off you have to let us know how it went!  :P

My friend (says that he) makes virus' and sends them to people.
I would love those stories to be true...Here's why:

(NOTE: In the following reconstructions my dialog has been edited to make me look witty and intelligent)

EXAMPLE #1:

FRIEND: You know that Chris Jones chap.
ME: Yes?
FRIEND: I sent him a virus in an E-mail attachment! With the message: "What do you think of this sprite?"
ME: Won't he notice the VIRUSTHATAMTEHVIRUS.exe filename.
FRIEND: No, I renamed it to NOTAVIRUS.BMP.EXE He'll think it's a .BMP file and download it!
ME: A .BMP file?
FRIEND: Yes...
ME:...

EXAMPLE #2

F: You know that Tom Fulp chap?
M: Yes
F: I sent him an E-mail virus disguised as a portal submission!
M:...

I did, and I do  :P

To be quite honest, IE is fine for most people, so long as you regularly patch it with security updates. I've been using it for years and I've never had a virus (eek, famous last words...)

It's just a matter of common sense, disabling VBScript and not opening random attachments  ;)

Fuzzpilz

Well, I could rattle off a list of disadvantages to IE (starting with "smart tags" and lack of tabbed browsing) but I'll let it be for now. :P

Evil

Well IE was a good change for me from AT&T's @Home interface... I still like IE though, I think it is a comfert thing...

Pumaman

Hehe, there should really be a website with a list of all the arguments from both perspectives in discussions like  IE vs Opera, Linux vs Windows and McDonalds vs Burger King so we can just point at it and say "end of discussion" ;)
