Hello!

We seem to have found and fixed most of the little bugs that still existed after the recent site changes, but please post here and let me know if you find any problems.  I am aware the games page search is a bit wonky atm, and will fix that soon.

Site & Forum Reports / SVN or Git
Thu 20/12/2012 12:59:07
We will shortly be moving from the current Windows machine to a new Linux one.  This will of course necessitate switching from the current SVN repository to another one, whether it's simply a Linux SVN or another type of version control software.

The idea of switching to Git has been mentioned in the past, so this seems like a good time to do that.  If this were to happen over the next few weeks, does anyone have stuff checked out that's likely to be affected?  If so, could you commit soon, so I can make sure the repository that's converted to Git is the most up to date.  I understand that no one is really committing to the official AGS SVN anymore anyway?  Logging is turned off, so I can't find this out myself!

I don't really know anything about version control, so forgive me if I've mangled the terminology above by the way!

Site & Forum Reports / Beta tester(s) needed!
Thu 20/12/2012 10:38:23
I have been working on a new version of the AGS site for a while now.  Three months and 3500 lines of PHP later, and I think it might be ready to go.  However, much as I've tested each feature over and over in the same couple of browsers (Firefox and IE) and couple of machines, it'd be good to get a fresh perspective from some other people.

I'm not necessarily looking for more ideas for feature suggestions / tweaks, but reasonably minor adjustments could be made at this point.  I'm looking to have this all finished and rolled out by the end of this month, so this is mainly a feature and bug testing exercise, not a usability study!

So anyway, any volunteers?  I realise Christmas is the worst possible time to be asking people to devote time to nerding away for me, but the contract on the current server expires at the end of the month, so I want to be able to switch to the new host and new version by then.

The functionality of the AGS site will be changing over the coming weeks and months.  No existing features will be removed, but all the comments people have made to date in this forum about the games page and other parts of the site will be taken into account, and solutions will be found where possible.

If you have any suggestions for things that could be added or changed regarding the functionality of the AGS site (the design will not be affected) that you haven't already made in this forum, please let me know.  I won't guarantee I'll be done, but if it sounds like a good idea I'll add it to my to do list.  Please don't repeat yourself if you've already suggested something, since I've already trawled through this forum and picked out all the things suggested to date.

I won't be replying to each suggestion as it's made, unless I completely disagree with adding it.  I will edit each post to strike through the suggestion if it's already been added to my test version.

Reality-on-the-Norm / realityonthenorm.info
Sun 23/09/2012 13:12:44
Who actually owns / controls the realityonthenorm.info domain?  As you may or may not have noticed, the AGS site and forums have moved from one server to another, so the IP has changed to 158.255.43.226.  Could the controller of the domain please update the DNS records to point to 158.255.43.226.

Site & Forum Reports / Server migration
Sat 08/09/2012 20:46:54
The server hosting the forums will be changing shortly.  CJ and I should have access to the new server tomorrow, and will be working to set it up as soon as possible.  The current server (running on IP address will be unavailable from 15th September, and adventuregamestudio.co.uk will redirect to a new IP address (currently unconfirmed).

This means there is likely to be at least one period of downtime of the forums over the next week.  Users may also be unable to access adventuregamestudio.co.uk until their ISP updates its nameservers (which usually doesn't take more than 24 hours).  I will post an update when this is likely to be happening.

Site & Forum Reports / AGS wiki moved
Sun 29/04/2012 23:16:44
The AGS wiki has now been moved to the AGS server.  It will now also tie in to the AGS forums, so they will use the same login details; your old AGS wiki account details won't work anymore.  All AGS forum moderators have bureaucrat (moderator) status, admins have sysop, and everyone else is a normal user.

Your AGS forums login may not work automatically, you may need to delete all your http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk cookies and log in to the AGS wiki again before it works.

I've tested it out, and it all seems to work properly.  However, if anyone spots any problems, please let me know.

Site & Forum Reports / Forum upgrade
Wed 25/04/2012 23:47:12
The forums are now upgraded.  I'm nowhere near finished though, so it's quite likely there are little niggles here and there.  Plus a lot of the special little hacks CJ put in are missing.  I'm planning to put most of them back in (and more!), but upgrading took ages, and I'm too tired to do more today!

Okay, having had the last 3 Brittens at my house, maybe it's time for a change. Creed Malay has generously offered to host it this time around at his house in Sunderland in the north of England. He was too lazy to actually start this thread himself though, so I'm doing it.

I'm told the house is large enough to fit around 15 people semi comfortably. There is a shortage of beds though, so 3 people will have to fight for couch space, and everyone else will need to bring sleeping bags and floor mats if they want their spines to survive the night. Sunderland is around 5 or 6 hours north of London, but there are regular trains and coaches to Newcastle and/or Sunderland which is nearby.

The plan is to have this happen around August bank holiday - Monday August 31 - so people with jobs get the free day off work and don't have to take so much holiday leave. This is around 7 weeks after Mittens, so hopefully people will have recovered by then.

So post if you're interested!

THE DATES ARE 22-28 AUGUST

General Discussion / Bernie Mac
Sat 09/08/2008 17:31:01
Bernie Mac (or B-Mac as we b-ficionados call him), star of such comedy heights as 'Guess Who' and 'Bad Santa', passed away today, aged 50, of pneumonia. So long, B-Mac, you will be missed :(

So the previous plans fell through, CJ says it's too late for him to get a hold of the Lake District cabin he's mentioned in the past, so it looks like it falls to me to host Brittens again.

So, Brittens, my house (near Cardiff, Wales), 21-28 July 2008: yea or nay?

The idea was suggested at Mittens that a range of AGS-related merchandise would be a cool idea. Any profit made would be put back into the community, most likely to help towards the cost of next year's Mittens hosting. So anyway, the questions are, if there was AGS merchandise: a) how many people would be interested in owning some? b) what kind of stuff would you like to see, and c) how much would you be willing to pay?

Bear in mind that stuff that's made in small, limited runs is rather more expensive to produce than the huge quantities normal clothing companies would create. Obviously we'd try to keep costs as low as possible, but the prices would need to be at least a bit above average.

Well, assuming you've attended a meet, anyway.

With the design help of Jake, I've started work on an AGS meets website. It's a bit bare currently though. I am in need of links to (or I can provide webspace, if people need it) any and all photos/videos/whatever people have from any AGS meet-up that's occured so far. The meets I can think of so far are: 4x Mittens, 3x Brittens, Ron Gilbert, Wintermeet, Brighton, Lapaset. There's probably no point covering stuff where only one or two AGSers have met, but I might reconsider this if people are interested in it.

I also need to know the dates various events happened. So, if you have any memorabilia, or info, please let me know by posting here, or in a PM. This applies to stuff as recent as Lapaset, since I'm too lazy to go trawling through threads to find links to people's photo galleries.

That's right, Brittens is DEAD. Long live the Mittens.

Well, Hajo, scotch and the Secret Guest are left, but all the others are home, or on their way home.

Brittens was fun, much mountaineering was done. Also, many stupid things were said, which you can read in the Brittens Quotefile. Oh, and Creed wrote a lovely ballad that won't make any sense out of context.
