This looks fantastic. As much as I hate to do it I have to move this as it's not an AGS made game!

This topic has been moved to Adventure Related Talk & Chat.

Since this isn't technically "in production" I'm gonna move this over to adventure related.

This, however generous, doesn't belong in the games in production board.

This does not belong in the Games in Production board (as it's not, you know, in production).  Please review the rules for each board before posting.  Thanks.

My knowledge of photography is decidedly lacking.  I know the basics (and can take some pretty good shots) but all the technical stuff is alien to me!  So I was wondering if any of you were versed in this stuff and could help a brotha out!

A couple of months back I bought my wife a Canon 60D digital camera.  It came with a 55-255mm lense (it was a kit).  I thought this was amazing (and it is) but it has some limitations.  Most notably when attempting to take any photos from 3-6ft (1-2m).  It is too zoomed in and the farthest out it goes is still too zoomed.  Under a lot of circumstances we can just back-up and get further away but this isn't always convenient and/or possible!

I was wondering what the best "standard" lens is?  I was thinking the 18-55mm would be the one but, honestly, I am way out of my league here.  I googled (up the wazoo) for this topic and get nothing definitive or helpful really.  So I was hoping the AGS community might be able to shed some light on what it is I'm looking for!

This doesn't belong in the Games in Production board so I've moved it to Completed Game Announcements.

You'll need to read the rules of that board and update the post to make sure it's in compliance.

This is so brilliant... I just had to share it!

Kogan institutes an IE7 tax

It shouldn't be just for IE7.  It should be for the entirety of Internet Suxplorer.

Now if only somebody with a bit more clout would follow suit!!

Welcome to the Games in Production Forum.

This is the place to promote the game that you're currently working on.  It's a great way for you to get your name out there and for people to see what your game is about (and hopefully become interested in the project!).  It is also a great place to see what others are currently working on.

We all want this forum clean and organized. So, like the subject implies, please "READ BEFORE POSTING!".

This forum is strictly moderated, so read these rules and make sure you understand them before continuing!

The Simple Rules:
PLEASE NOTE: Your thread could be locked if you neglect to follow these rules!

1) Your game must actually be 'in production'.
This means you've actually begun working on it.  Don't post anything about an idea you have for a game.  That belongs in Adventure Related Talk & Chat or the Critics Lounge.

2) Your game must actually be made in Adventure Game Studio
This means the production being shown in your thread is from the AGS version of your game.  If you're building an Adventure Game in another engine (or will port to another platform) we'd love to hear about, just not in the AGS Games in Production board.  Share it in the Adventure Related Talk & Chat board!  All games in the AGS Games in Production board must be developed with AGS.

3) A minimum of two (in-game) screenshots must be available.
If you aren't far enough to be able to take different screenshots, don't post yet!  We know some of you don't want to show too much of the game, but two screenies isn't too much to ask!  Please note that splash screens and options/menu screens don't count as one of the two.  They must be actual screenshots of two (or more) different backgrounds.
Sub-Rule - If you are creating a one-room game you need only post one in-game screenshot (obviously as there wouldn't be another) and in this case you can use a title/splash screen (or the same screen with a GUI showing or something) as the second

4) You must have a clear outline of the story/plot.
You don't have to give anything away, but be clear what the game is about and what the player can expect.

5) Updates should be displayed in your game's thread.
You are free to post links to offsite information about your game's updates (like your personal website, or social media platforms) but if you're going to post an update to the Games in Production thread the post should contain the relevant information about the update you're linking to and not just the external link!
Not everybody uses social media (or wants to leave the forums to read an update) so it's best to include the update details in the thread.

6) ONE thread per game only!
If you are working on more than one game you may have a thread for each but do not put more than one game in a production thread.

7) The subject line must be the title of your game.
Working titles are okay, but if you don't have a title at all, then don't post yet!
It is encouraged to have a brief update after the title, for example:
- MoNKeY WReNCH - DEMO available
- Attack of the Squalmen - need help with scripting
- Tale of a Rotten Weener Shnitzle - 98% complete!
DON'T do this:
- NEW GAME BY ME!!!11!!!111 (and similar)

8) Progress/Status Report (optional)
In the first post, tell us what you've got done so far and/or how you're progressing!  For example:
- graphics 90%
- puzzles 45%
- scripting 15%
- music/sound 90%

The DOs & DON'Ts ...

DO edit the original post so newer readers can grab the latest info about your game:
As the game author, you should try to edit the original post for updates, whenever possible, to make sure that new readers of the thread get the latest status. Posting a reply is fine too (and is necessary to bump the thread).

DO post any type of promotional material:
Screenshots, promotional material, designer diaries, demo downloads, music samples, requests for help with your game, links to your website, release dates, etc...

DO NOT post requests for C&C:
That's what the Critic's Lounge is for. Please post in there to ask for any type of critisism.

DO NOT make various threads about nothing:
This forum is for promoting your game, not general chat. You can chat inside one of the game's threads, but stay on topic!
NO threads about general topics in here, for example:
- What do you guys think of MI2's GUI?
- Need some cool ideas for my game...
Threads like these go in the Adventure Related Talk & Chat forum.

DO NOT dig up old threads without good reason!
Threads that haven't been posted to/updated in 90 days shouldn't be arbitrarily posted to! If you have specific news about the game (and know it's still in production) that's fine but if you have a random question consider PMing the author to ask rather than bumping a [potentially] abandoned game's thread!

Thanks for understanding!
Good luck and happy game-making!!

* Old Threads are threads that have been inactive for near to over 90 days (3 months).

28 April - 1 June 2012

To inaugurate the launch of the new website/forums (AGS got a make-over!) we have decided to open up a contest to create new themes for the forums!

Yes, that's right, you could design a theme that could grace the AGS forums.  Countless thousands of users could marvel at your design prowess!!

So what does it take to be a super-star theme designer?
  • You must know how to create/install your own SMF Themes (not just photoshop mockups!)
  • You must have a test-server (running SMF v2.0.2) setup where you can create your theme
Why do we do it this way?

Honestly?  Creating a theme is a LOT of work.  If you've never done it before you will probably underestimate just how much work is required to customize your own theme!  Because we (obviously) can't give every contestant admin-level access to the AGS boards this is why this contest requires you to have a test-server set up to create your own theme(s) so that, should you win the contest, it's just a matter of uploading your theme to AGS and voila!  We have a new theme!

Theme Design Guidelines

The sky is the limit really!!  You can make it based off a well-known adventure game (AGS made or other) or just make it stylized as you want!  The only restriction is it must be based off the Curve 2.0 theme.  The rest is up to you!  Just remember, the more "mass appeal" you achieve, the more likely you are to win :)

Helpful Links:
Contest Rules:
  • The theme must be based off the Curve 2.0 theme (doesn't have to resemble it at all, just based off that template)
  • Your theme must be completed by the contest deadline
  • You must provide three screenshots showing your theme's best assets (recommended are the main boards index, the threads index, and the thread display pages)
  • It is recommended that you also setup your webserver/SMF to allow for guest access so people can view your theme "live" but this is not required
So how is the winner decided?

The winner(s) will be decided by community vote!  If there are enough entries, or the vote is close enough (or a tie), more than one theme could be chosen for inclusion!  However, if there aren't more than 3 entries the contest deadline may be extended or the contest may simply be terminated all together.

Feel free to use this thread to post Works in Progress as well as mockups and concepts!

As mentioned; creating a theme is a LOT of work!  Please be sure you can commit the time necessary to create a theme if you intend to enter this contest!

Okay, here's the deal; I suck at math.  I don't know if it's a mental block or if I'm just not smart enough but either way, I suck at it.  I have a problem ... it's a bit long-winded so bear with me here:

I'm working on a little project that involves making a clock in HTML/CSS3.  For the sake of this question I'm going to focus solely on the seconds hand of the clock.  I set the seconds hand's starting rotation by grabbing the current time, stripping the seconds from it, and multiplying that by 6.  Since there are 60 seconds in a minute, divide 360 by 60 and you get 6.

So if the current seconds are 10, the rotation is 60 degrees.  Simple (even I can do that!).  Then I just call that same javascript function every 1000ms and it works a charm and the seconds hand just works its way around the clock in 1 second increments!

However...

I have added in some CSS3 transitions on the movement so it's 'animated' smoother (it still ticks each second but rather than just blinking from point A to point B with no 'tweening' it actually moves the distance smoothly).  Don't worry about this if you don't know CSS transitions it's not really all that important to the over-all question which I am getting to :)

The problem with the transitions is that when it gets back to 360 degrees it spins all the way around COUNTER clockwise to get back to the start of the clock rather than just continuing smoothly into the next minute.  I have tested and confirmed it is definitely the transitions doing this.  If I remove them, it just works as it should (without the smoother animation).

So...

To fix this I stopped setting the rotation based on the TIME and, instead, pass the function the current rotation which I then just add 6 degrees to.  This works perfectly so instead of going back to 6 degrees for the first second it would rotate to 366 degrees.  (I calculated, based on javascript's highest allowed integer that it would take approximately 47 million years to crash when it reaches a number that js can't handle).

Here is (finally) the problem:

Because the rotation is no longer being based off the actual time, I want to be able to check (after X amount of time) that the time is being kept accurately and, if not, just re-init the clock.  I am wanting to say:

current passed in rotation value = X;
rotation value based off current time = Y;

And then somehow discover if they are equal, meaning X is the same rotational value as Y!  So like if X = 366 and Y = 6 those are the same!  It's easy on the second time around but when you get up higher it's a jumbled mess!

I have a suspicion is has something to do with the current 'second' ... like if it's the 10th second that would be 60degrees so I have to do something with 420degrees and 10 ... but I'm just not seeing it :(

Is there a formula or something?  I'm guessing this is something REALLY simple and I'm just not mathematically gifted enough to grasp it!  Any and all help, advice, ideas are much appreciated!

I did have an idea about setting a global variable in the init function but I wanted to focus on the above first!

THE MENU FOR THE NEW & IMPROVED AGS BAKE SALE!
Your guide to all the great games for sale at this charity event

The AGS Bake Sale Bundle Official Website
www.AGSBakeSale.com

A lot of people are hard at work making games for the AGS Bake Sale. Many of them have already posted previews of their work in the Games In Progress forum, with more new ones popping up all the time. Keeping track of what's out there is sure to become trickier as time goes on, so this sticky (graciously provided by Darth Mandarb -- I guess he's not as evil as I thought he was!) will collect links to all the game threads in one handy place.

So feel free to look around and see if there's anything you like being offered. The bake sale will happen in January (Jan 15), with all the games collected in a single bundle and offered at a "pay what you like" price. The money raised will be donated to Child's Play, a fantastic charity that seeks to enrich the lives of unfortunate children in hospitals around the world. And Child's Play is a charity that is uniquely suited to gamers like us, as it is funded almost entirely by gamers and the videogame industry.

For those of you keeping score, you may have noticed that this isn't our original goal. But as it turned out, CJ didn't want or need the server we hoped to buy for him. And while there were lots of other causes we could have raised money for, helping sick kids was the one charity that we could all agree was the best goal to strive for. And, really, is there a more worthy cause for us to dedicate our time and money towards than children who need our help? (Answer: Of course there isn't! :) )

Remember, AGS Community: We began this entire endeavor for you guys and there's no way we can make this bake sale a success without your help. So please, when the time comes, dig the coins out of your sofas and pay a little money to download the AGS Bake Sale Bundle. Together, we can help a bunch of sick kids and in doings so, make our cozy little corner of the web an even better place to spend time.

Thanks,

The Members of the AGS Bake Sale

I have searched the interwebs quite a bit to see if anybody else has this issue but I seem only able to find "close" issues but nobody has the same issue (well I found one place where a fellow had the EXACT problem but, of course, there were no replies to the question).

So I thought I'd turn to my AGS pals and see if there are any iTunes/iDevice gurus 'round these parts that might be able to solve the issue;

I updated my iPad and iPhone to iOS5.  Everything went smoothly and I'm loving most of the new features (the text macros are aces and iMessage is a very nice new feature to stick it the carriers that RAPE us for texting charges... but that's a whole other story).

Anyway... on my iPad when it did the 'restore' after all the updates were done it only put some of my apps back on the thing.  The rest are still in iTunes, just sitting there taunting me, but it simply will not put them back on the iPad and I can't find any way to accomplish this.

The show up in the "Apps" tab in iTunes but I can't transfer/drag/drop nothing.

Anybody know how to get them back on the iPad?
