Just out of interest, I had the same trouble as Petteri, where do you find the code '5G' I couldn't find a reference anywhere for it.

Spoiler

Is it actually possible to finish this demo, I think I have done everything, I've even unlocked the pod, but it tells me I have no reason to leave the ship even though I know I'm heading for a star, and I've seen the hologram. I also can't use the release button as the bug I mentioned earlier.

Another little thing I noticed earlier with the messages, on the easier level, in the room where the ice cream note is lying next to the guy, if you get the note then try to search the guy it says something like, there is something in plain view to the right of him, when you already have it.

As for the difficulty levels, as remixor said, you don't have to change all the code, all you have to do is have, say 5 buttons labeled Easy - Hard and when you choose one it just sets that value to 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 and bingo, problem solved

I copied over the walkable mask and edited it, but no, I didn't import a mask specifically for that region. I did however import the mask for the walkable area, and as far as I can see there were no stray pixels in it, but I could have edited the walkable area since and maybe it was there when I copied it to the region initially.

It puzzled me too, I couldn't draw a black line to replicate it, and it was definately there, I've got an older verion where it is still there, I clicked the mouse on it and it took me to region 15, which is white and draws a white line.

maybe it happened sometime in upgrading versions of AGS???

or maybe something to do with copying the walkable area mask to set the other regions and not deleting the unnecessary bits properly?

I still don't know how it ended up being a black region (in colour anyway), and it was a while ago when I did that part and only flukily found out about it with a beta tester.

Oh well, It's probably a very rare occurance, I have no idea if it was something I did, or a minor bug somewhere.

Anyway I think I've fixed the problem, although I couldn't replicate the error in the first place.

Looking good Grundislav, I like the transition between the graphics of the games, I can see a great improvement in your art over the last few years.

I like how you've made similar styles in comparison to each of the first 3 MI's, and how you've progressively incorporated your own art more and more with each game. It's obviously been a great learning experience in many areas.

keep up the good work and I can't wait to play it.

try interacting with the draws when he turns his head.

I totally didn't even think of skill level, and what is harder 1% or 100%?

maybe it should be clearer, is it your skill, or the games skill against you.

Thanks for the help

Yeah, the whole series was great, and is one of my favourites, but yes SQ3 was easily my favourite, I've played them all countless times. except 6, I bought it a year or so ago, and I've played it 2wice, and enjoyed it, but I'd like to wait a while before playing it again so hopefully I forget what to do.

That's the problem with most adventures, if you enjoy them you play them too much and learn the puzzles too well.

I've only played GF once, and although some bits will be easy, I'm sure it'll still be a challenge.

If only you could delete the brain cells that stored Adventure games, I guess I'll just have to drink more beer.

What do you mean he just walks in and out of the bedroom? There's supposed to be a very narrow room with the captain lying on the bed, dead.

It says something like, there is too much debris in the way, I'll just assume the captain is dead like all the others.

It seems I might have to re-think the force field frequency puzzle thing. You're right, it is a very large range. Maybe a smaller range? Because the closer you get to the right frequency, it's supposed to disrupt the forcefield more and more. I'll reduce the range by a large amount and re-release it.

When I cheated, I tested some numbers closer just to see what happens, and I think it's a good puzzle, but yeah, reducing the range will stop people getting pissed off.

I never noticed anything about the walk-behind. Or the helmet. I'll fix both of these for the re-release of the demo. Thanks :)

No worries, glad to be of help.

General Discussion / Re:robbed

That sucks heaps, being robbed sucks,

In 1995 I was robbed and they stole my 8086 which had the only copy of an adventure game I created in GW basic, I had it somewhere on a 5.25 floppy but don't know where it is or have a drive to use it.

They took my stereo, and some cd's, some rare ones too,

It was odd that they left the tv in the lounge room, and the only stuff stolen was from my room, The front door was broken. I had suspicions of one of my house mates but couldn't prove anything. He even used his insurance and ptretended it was his room to get it.

I ended up getting a better stereo, but my computer game was gone, They left the funny looking plant that had been sitting on my stereo too.

I'll never know the truth.

thanks for the cheat thing, no offence, but I hate those sort of puzzles, maybe not such a huge range anyway.

And as for the piece of paper, you do know there's a second room in the captain's quarters, right? ;)

I know there's a second room, if you mean the bedroom, but he just walks in and out, I guess I need to have something to go in the room, but I've tried everything I've found and accessed all the other rooms.

Spoiler
A couple more little things, in the captains room, the walkbehind on the chair on the left bottom of screens walkbehind needs fixing, you can stand way below it and you're still behind it, also you pick up a helmet in the guest vip room but it doesn't appear in your inventory.

It's a tough game, that seems easy at some points, I guess I'm just missing something, or not using something I have right?
#991
There are 2 regions in the room and it is impossible to walk over them when interacting with the hotspot.

They are further to the left and to top of screen going to two rooms, you can't cross them when interacting with the hotspot, if your not close to the hotspot it gives you a message you're not close enough, and when you are close enough it moves you to the specific spot (which was where the error occurred and is nowhere near a region)

The player used the keyboard to walk within range, maybe the mouse was over the region (actually it couldn't be if it was being used to interact with the hotspot)

I'm stumped on this, and I can't recreate it either, It seems like one of those things that happens once in a blue moon, but it will happen to serveral people at some stage.

Edit: not really an edit, but I just looked at the game again and I think I found the problem, I found a 1 by 1 black pixel that was a region right near the point the character walks to, I must have been in regions and clicked the button when I was finding the spot to walk to. It was hard to find aswell cause it just looked like a normal black pixel on the background. but more than likely this was the culprit.

Thanks for replying CJ, as I thought It must be something to do with regions and It didn't seem like it was. This was the ultimate pixel hunting puzzle.

I got a report on an error in my game,

It occurred with an interaction on a hotspot.

here's the error:

Quote
An error has occured. Please contact the game author for support, as this problem is caused by the game rather than the interpreter.
(ACI version 2.56.627)

(Room 33 script line 146)
Error: RunRegionInteraction: invalid region speicfied

and this is the script for the hotspot:

 // script for hotspot4: Interact hotspot
if ((character[LAZ].x<220) || (character[LAZ].y>123)){
Display("You're not close enough.");
}

else {
SetGlobalInt(104,0);
MoveCharacter(LAZ,228,100);
while (character[LAZ].walking) Wait(1); // this is the line the error reports
FaceLocation(LAZ,220,100);

if (GetGlobalInt(100)==0){

Display("You clear the mechanism by quickly spinning the lock several turns to the right. Which three numbers do you wish to try?");

GUIOn(25);
}

else {
ObjectOff(0);
LoseInventory(26);
LoseInventory(36);
LoseInventory(35);
SetGlobalInt(100,0);
Display("You close the locker.");
}
}

I can't replicate the error, and I got a good description of what the player did.

Any Ideas on the reason of the error, maybe something to do with a walkable area? there is no 'region' near or associated with the action.

or maybe it's because the player was standing exactly at 228,100 when interacting with the hotspot?

(Also good find cause I forgot to remove the top menu gui before turning gui25 on, which allows you to bring up inventory or options menu which appears under gui25. and put a Wait(1) after the facelocation.)

It's great so far but after a few days of trying I need a bit of help

Spoiler
I've found 5 pieces of paper so I can't get that code, are all the pieces of paper in the same room cause I've exhausted that room, and I did get the one in the random book, how many pieces are there.

Also with the frequency in the cell, is there a number somewhere or is it just trial and error, cause if it is trial and error, i've tried many between 100 & 10,000 and always get the same message, no message saying I'm closer or anything, there must be a number hiding somewhere.

I've been using http://www.tripod.lycos.co.uk/

it has ads and stuff, but it has pretty decent bandwidth, 50MB space, works for me.

but you can't hotlink from other sites or use the anonymiser thing, you just put the link up on a page, and point people to that page to download.

Oh, and how do you leave the Boss screen? Nothing I have tried works...

You close it the same way you would close a normal windows window, the 'x' in the top right corner.

Quote
It was a brief sprite sizing thing

Tawni says "is it a ahopping mall"

I'll have a look and see if I can see what you mean.

Quote
Also, having to walk around the other side of Tawni is a bit of not-good-gameplay

ok, I'll have it so he automatically walks around to talk to her, I think I'll do that for the maitre 'd aswell, it will also make it more consistant with the other characters.

Quote
I assume that the quiz is not supposed to happen at the start...

Yeah, I got rid of the quiz, if you click under 12 it quits straight away without any warning, the other ages I figure are ok seeing as I was about that age when it came out, and I played it then (although I didn't let my parents know) Although kids are smart enough to pretent to be older.

The questions in the original are a bit stupid as it is still hard to pass, cause they are now dated, plus they are usually things only American's would know. but it was easy enough to skip in the original with Ctrl-Alt-X, I knew that before I even got the game.

I have also uploaded beta 0.3

*added character control with keyboard - helps in locker room, and also with walking off screen edges in windowed mode

I think this was the best solution for this as it is important that larry walks to the edge of the screen before going to the next room, not suddenly vanishing when behind a tree and appearing halfway across a new room, as for the thing behind the column, it is the same in the original, I don't think it's a real issue.

Thanks SSH, I'll get those things fixed up. you probably won't need to get the updated version unless you feel like it.

EDIT: I've uploaded beta 0.4

updates since 0.3

*when talking/looking at tawni you had to stand near her - now he walks there automatically
*when talking to the maitre 'd you had to stand near him - now he walks there automatically
*fixed character walkbehind for dch love scene - which I had created during 0.2 fix
*extra text in Larry's dancing scene which I had left out accidently
*when using key in elevator you now only get a message the first time

I'll stop uploading stuff for a while, I think this version is pretty decent, and I'm still not sure about some of your findings SSH, but I think I've fixed or worked around most of your queries.

Unless something major is found in the next little while, I might continue with the rest of it.

And If anyone else still wants to test, you are more than welcome.

just one controversial part, when you have the melted tyre, and you try to give it to the scientist, it says it should be flesh coloured, now I'm sure you're aware that skin colour comes in quite a variety of shades, maybe you should just re-word it.

Classic game foz, I'm sure even vel will appreciate it, if you can't laugh at someone taking the piss out of you, you just don't have a sense of humor.

Quote from: foz on Tue 14/10/2003 00:47:19But the clock was ticking and i wanted to present a complete package unlike other MAGS games ...including a intro,a few characters,some puzzles ,sfx,music and ending.

the clock is still ticking very slowly, it's only half way through the month, maybe you could have made it even better.

And there are other mags games with a complete package, one of the best ever was 'who killed kenny rogers' - by 2ma2, and mine in feb had about a 10 min intro, crappy puzzles, distorted story, explosive ending.

Spoiler
the only small bug I noticed was you could keep getting the key from the draw and if you opened the draw when it was open it said it was locked
and minimi could still talk after you removed his brain, maybe he's just really smart
[close]

It left me in a good mood after it finished, which is what a comedy game should do, well done in such a short time, just think what you could do in a month.
