I was bored the other day, so I made a five minute MIDI which contains several songs. It is basically a "consistancy" test to see whether I could create a soundtrack and not change the styles too much. See what you think;

BTW, please don't use it in a game. It's for someone else ^-^

Making five minute soundtracks is actually quite fun :D

TA!!

Nixxon

ooo ooo! so good it hurts... chest convultions... rectum pains....

TOP WORK!

m0ds

Thanks Ibex! BTW, I forgot to say that its for a comedy piratey game. That way, you won't say "If its for a drama then its crap". lol.

Thanks again, IbeX :)

Eggie

I want to hear this in a game.

Awesome stuff.

Trapezoid

Sounds good. Rodekill Island?

Scummbuddy

no, return to kinky island.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.
-Hoagie from DOTT

Trapezoid

It's got the Rodekill theme though.
And Kinky Island still isn't finished.
But neither is Rodekill 2, I suppose. Unless Rodekill 2 is gonna be a pirate adventure. In which case, everything I know is wrong.

Ionias

I dig it m0ds! No doubt about it you got dem midi skills.

SHAWNO NEWS FLASH: Rodekill.com, not updated because I suck at animation. Long story.

Dr. Awesome

I like it. Light and funny. Nice work, M0ds.

evilspacefart

It sounds like it can be used in different scenarios as well as pirate, just by SeekMIDIPosition.
Awesome work, m0ds. So, can I buy you a drink?

Pet Terry

Great! And that first melody is used in Rode Quest :P So it's related to Rode Kill. I like it, you sure have skills as Ionias already said :)

Ben

I like it. Very Rode Killey.

Only crit I have is that some of the instruments are too loud compared to the others.

m0ds

Thanks for the comments! Ben, I totally agree and I'm going to iron that out. Some of the woodwinds near the end of the piece are a bit brash, I'll turn them down.

evilspacefart, hell - whenever you're at Mittens! You can buy me a whole round! :P

Thanks for all the comments, very inspiring ^_^

PS, Ionias - for listening to that MIDI, you owe me teh $300!!111

rookworm3

Whoa! Great orchestration. I hear hints of Monkey Island tunes all over the place.  Rodekill Island it must be! Arr!

Sluggo

It's great, but it'd be cool if all the separate tunes kind of ran together into one long programmatic piece. :)

Attacca subito!

m0ds

Sluggo, I presume you mean a medley? I don't like making medley's so I save them for credit sequences lol.

2003? Christ. Sorry to dig up an old thread.

As that previous link is dead - for anyone who likes some of the old productions by Rodekill, here is a medley:

After a discussion with Yarcanox today I'd welcome comments on the format of the music, whether you think it's an acceptable style for games. The instrument samples aren't massively high quality, so it retains that retro gimmick of sample sets of yesteryear - is that a pro, or a con?

Dualnames

It feels like Monkey Island, so, yeah, you deserve a hug.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Shane 'ProgZmax' Stevens

The horn sounds like midi clowncar crap, but aside from that I like the rest of it and the other instruments.
