About this game
In Anthony's Essay, you play Anthony, a student who has still not done his English essay, and it is now the due date. Get the essay finished before the teacher gets thoroughly annoyed!*Improved Version as of 15th Feb 2005* (so the current review doesn't apply so much)

Dialogue was quite funny :P
The problems are mostly technical. For instance, the real backgrounds are often cluttered and it is impossible to find the exits. Anthony is difficult to control and often walks in a completely different direction from the way you tell him to. There is an option to use the arrow keys to control him but this doesn't help much because he still bumps into things that are obscured from view and you have to just wiggle around until you suddenly find yourself in another room. Also, some hotspots are very small. I correctly solved a puzzle but the message kept saying I couldn't use the two items together. When I consulted the walkthrough I found out I was right and I had to go back and search out the EXACT spot I had to click on.
Aside from this there are is at least one fairly illogical puzzle and some oddly extraneous dialogue, all of which is impossible to ignore in such a short game. Which is a shame, because I really would like to see Anthony and the lovely Nicole return in further adventures. These two characters interact nicely and have some funny dialogue, plus there is some nice thematic music for each screen too. There is a student diary with a map of the school in the player's inventory which is never used. This could be utilised to create a larger game which would be far easier to navigate since you could simply click on the destination on the map that you wished to visit. I would certainly play another Anthony and Nicole game but the one that currently exists is a very flawed and ultimately frustrating game
