The AGS Panel is a team of AGS forum veterans who play all of the games here, and give them ratings from one to five cups. The rating system is as follows:
1 Cup Not serious entertainment
2 Cups A reasonable game, worth a try
3 Cups A good game, worth playing
4 Cups A great game, well worth your time
5 Cups An outstanding, must-play game!
Feel free to disagree with the panel's rating, and please don't be offended if you think your game has been underrated!

(Why has my game been rated 1 cup?)

Close window
If your game has been rated 1 cup, please don't be offended! It's common for your first game release to get a 1-cup rating, due to the game having a lack of polish and flair -- which is understandable, because you're just getting started!

Please understand that the main purpose of the ratings is to help potential game players find high quality, bug-free games to play. You've probably learnt a lot about AGS as a result of making your first game -- so why not use that knowledge to start afresh, and do even better with your next game!

About this game

Ever since a meteor landed in the back yard of Dr. Fred and Nurse Edna's Victorian mansion, bizarre things have been happening. First, their mutant son, Weird Ed, dropped out of school. Then patients started disappearing from Country Hospital. And now this strange event is affecting the lives of innocent (and even some not-so-innocent) teenagers. In fact, a girl named Sandy is being held captive in that musty old mansion right now. Sandy's boyfriend, Dave, has lots of friends who need you help to sneak in - and sneak her out. Now exactly how it all ends up depends entirely on which trio of friends you send in there. And which inhabitants you encounter. In fact, the farther you get inside the mansion, the more weird characters you'll meet. There's Nurse Edna - who's as nasty as she is ugly. There's a disembodied Tentacle who wants you to make him a rock star. And a host of others, who all have their own crazy quirks you'll have to deal with. Everyone in there seems to be working for Dr. Fred. But the question is: “Who is Dr. Fred working for?”

The game is available in English, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Maltese, Bulgarian and Russian.

Downloaded more than 100.000 times during its first week after release.

Instead of using wine, just try scummvm or a newer AGS version (you need to copy acwin.exe to the gamefolder and start that executable). It should work with no problems on Win11

I can't run Maniac Mansion Deluxe with my new laptop on Windows 11, with the older laptop (Windows 10) it worked perfectly, please help.

Error says:

There was a problem initializing graphics mode 320 x 200 (16-Bit)

(Problem: Can not set video mode)
Try to correct the problem or seek help from the AGS homepage.

Possible cause your graphics card drivers do not support this resolution. Run the game setup and try the other resolution.

The other resolution (640 x 400) works fine, now the problem is that all my saved games are with the 320 x 200 resolution, the same with all these Maniac Mansion Mania Episodes. The savegames just don't workl with the other resolution. How can I run these games again with 320 x 200 (16-Bit)

I've already tried winevdm, it didn't worked, I've already downloaded otvdm-v0.8.1.zip and extracted the file,it doesn't help in this case.

A perfect recreation of the original Maniac Mansion by Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick. Every single detail was reproduced with perfection.
Absolutely a masterpiece of a masterpiece!

I'm trying to play it but since I've played "Day of the Tentacle" I'm afraid it won't be that funny...

Of the AGS games I've played, I'd consider MMD to be one of the best. The best qualities of the game would have to be it's variable qualities; all the different possible endings really brings the game alive, and the cutscenes throughout the game really give a sense of progress. Overall I'd strongly reccomend this game.

Very, very nice - Being a fan of the original, I can't say much besides that I loved this remake! I do miss the music from the Nintendo version, though.... (The music when you enter Edna's room, mostly... God, that was one of the best parts of the game... :) )

Kudos, man - Can't wait to see what your next project is!

Awesome remake faithful to the original, the Lucas equivalent of Tierra\'s KQ1 remake.

I remember the original and this rendition brings it back to life and reminds me of my happy (relatively) childhood years. I haven't beat this yet, but the amount of work put into it must be tremendous! Good work.

He did it again!
This time Lucasfan did not come up with a new story, but he and his crew put a remarkable effort in this project and came up with Maniac Mansion deluxe which is providing me with some of the funniest memories of my chidlhood. The VGA-colors look very nice but don't take away anything from the wonderful old mood. The scumm-interface is much nicer than the original one. And the best: the stupid secret door on the first floor is ALWAYS open and I don't have to worry about the copy protection anymore :) After so many years I was finally able to explore what is behind that door and I know what I will be doing for the next weeks, I will be trying to solve the secrets of the Maniac Mansion.
