The AGS Panel is a team of AGS forum veterans who play all of the games here, and give them ratings from one to five cups. The rating system is as follows:
1 Cup Not serious entertainment
2 Cups A reasonable game, worth a try
3 Cups A good game, worth playing
4 Cups A great game, well worth your time
5 Cups An outstanding, must-play game!
Feel free to disagree with the panel's rating, and please don't be offended if you think your game has been underrated!

(Why has my game been rated 1 cup?)

Close window
If your game has been rated 1 cup, please don't be offended! It's common for your first game release to get a 1-cup rating, due to the game having a lack of polish and flair -- which is understandable, because you're just getting started!

Please understand that the main purpose of the ratings is to help potential game players find high quality, bug-free games to play. You've probably learnt a lot about AGS as a result of making your first game -- so why not use that knowledge to start afresh, and do even better with your next game!

AGS Panel Review

"Extremely short but shows a lot of promise."

15 people commented on this game (newest first):

It feels like the introduction to a great adventure.
Excellent staging. Too bad Buccaneer II never saw the light of day.

Very effective as a short demonstration.

Ahh, most enjoyable :)

A short but sweet game, which has potential to grow

The puzzles in this game, as far as there were any, were much, much too easy. This was mainly because there was very little to interact with and all the environements felt quite empty.

Very well-done little game, I enjoyed it. A bit too short, and perhaps a bit too easy, but very interesting and technically perfect.

Wow, I really enjoyed this game. The puzzles were a bit easy though.

I really enjoyed this game, although I do have a bit of criticism. First of all, it was way too short. This is not so much criticism as praise, since I sincerely wish it had lasted longer. The story was excellent and immersive, although it feels like the game only scratched the surface. The graphics were very nice and far better than most other freeware games, but with most other aspects of the game being even better, the graphics become one of the weak points. With just a bit more detail and polish they could be raised to the level of the LucasArts games they try to emulate. The other weak point would be the puzzles; they were simply too easy, and with the game being as short as it is, it didn't take me more than five minutes to complete it.

All in all a great experience that ended far too soon. I'm looking forward to the sequel and hoping the weak ponts will be improved.

Buccaneer is a brilliant piece of writing. Although it is very short and easy the character development is astonishing and it builds to the most unexpectedly poignant climax. It looks very nice and the dialogue contains both humourous and serious aspects. I sincerely hope Buccaneer 2 will eventually appear and maybe provide us with a longer glimpse into this world without comprosmising the spot-on tone of the first game.

Excellent effort. Really liked this very short game.

Thanks for the kind comments, everyone.
Now, could the people who voted low for this game please offer some feedback, please? Since I'm working on Buccaneer 2 I'd love to correct the things people felt were wrong with this one.

Nice game. Good graphics and music. Far too short and not really any puzzles. Nice to play all the same!

Great effort from Hobbes! Short, but hey, it's a MAGS game. Very tight package--nice graphics, characters, and plot. I'm looking forward to Buccanner II.
