The AGS Panel is a team of AGS forum veterans who play all of the games here, and give them ratings from one to five cups. The rating system is as follows:
1 Cup Not serious entertainment
2 Cups A reasonable game, worth a try
3 Cups A good game, worth playing
4 Cups A great game, well worth your time
5 Cups An outstanding, must-play game!
Feel free to disagree with the panel's rating, and please don't be offended if you think your game has been underrated!

(Why has my game been rated 1 cup?)

If your game has been rated 1 cup, please don't be offended! It's common for your first game release to get a 1-cup rating, due to the game having a lack of polish and flair -- which is understandable, because you're just getting started!

Please understand that the main purpose of the ratings is to help potential game players find high quality, bug-free games to play. You've probably learnt a lot about AGS as a result of making your first game -- so why not use that knowledge to start afresh, and do even better with your next game!

AGS Panel Review

"Though the writing sometimes veers into the distinctly flowery, this ode to loss is hugely impressive in execution. While the idea and design are solid on their own, it\'s the aesthetic aspects that hold the aces. High quality, semi-professional voice acting really brings the characters to life, and fine music evokes suitable moods. But it\'s in the wonderfully charming graphics that EU\'s world is fully realised. Colourful and expressive, the characters and backgrounds are wonderfully engaging, and draw the player into the experience. Recommended."

Original and unique concept, great dialogue and fantastic atmosphere. Great stuff.

who knew something so short could be so moving?

Voices and music just great (not to mention the dialogue among the three "creatures" around the crate, WOW). I felt like it might have taken inspiration from Willow and Tara relationship on Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show, because the characters looked sooo much like them. I really enjoyed it.

Great game, but this tendency to use lesbian characters is turning into a cliche.

Wonderfully atmospheric backgrounds and animation, high quality voice acting and music, and a simple but effective story that is emotional without being overly melodramatic. Highly recommended!
(the fact this was made in under a month to such high quality just makes it more impressive)

Amazingly beautiful visuals, worth playing for the art alone. Voice acting is high quality and adds a lot to the emotional pull. Puzzles are simple and few, feels that most of the game plays itself so enter in to it expecting to watch more than interact.

To have the settings describe mental states is a smart idea. For me this was the most well done thing in the game. The visuals show the hand of an artist, the music was ok, while the rain/snow/leaves animations get most of the applauds. And the fact that there is no doubt about each setting's meaning cotributes a great deal to the success of this idea's implementation. However, I felt that the lightnings in the anger scene could have been more clearly represented.

When considering the choice of puzzles one should not lose from sight the fact that all happens in Amber's mind. Some actions are related to less obvious mental connections but such elements also have less meaning in moving from one stage of the game to another. They are more dream like.

The characters are few and I felt that some of them could have been better defined. The gargoyles have their tradition. But I had problems understanding the trees as a choice of Amber for inner dialog. More puzzling for me was the ghoul. And this is because it may stand for Fio's disease/death-from-disease or just a mental voice that tortures Amber's consciousness. Perhaps the author combined both meanings. The character is important because it demands much attention through the extensive monologue in the beginning when the plot is defined.

Generally one cannot speak of individual weaker aspects of the game. For me, there were some weaker points here and there in the flow of the story. But I cannot say that I understood all metaphors. I think that the human shapes could have used a better design, more according to their feelings perhaps.

An artistic achievement of this caliber is garanteed to have a large audience. It is in the power of talented game makers to use their work to give constructive examples that players can translate in their real lives. It is good to show the people what happens to them but a work of art can achieve more

I only wish that it lasted longer. I wrote more on the game page.

This game was truly excellent. The storyline was original and the soundtrack was great! Its really rare that you come across a game nowadays that doesn't force you to go against your morals and do generally screwed up things that otherwise you wouldn't do. I liked that it was about friendship and love of another person. I only wish that it lasted longer. I would rate this game 10 mugs if I could.

I enjoyed the game, the visuals were spectacular, thought the puzzles needed a little more work. Did I mention that the visuals were spectacular?!

Excellent game. Not only was the gameplay itself wonderful - logical puzzles, nice pacing, good music - but it managed to really evoke emotions from me, which I find to be really rare in gaming.

I highly recommend this game and will, myself, be seeing what else the authors have put out there, because I want more.

Beautiful game!
Also in a technical sense: astonishing backgrounds (the trees and later the animated leaves are fantastic), amazing music and super voice acting!

Nice (with background and voices outstanding for an indie game). I personally think it could have delivered the message better without the final exposition, which ruins the moment a bit.
These kind of games are hit or miss depending on the audience; being short, download it now and judge for yourself!

The game hit home for me, because i've experienced something similar.

A few minutes into the game, I got goosebumps. The "story" looks random, but in the end, it all makes sense.

Real good story, i liked the graphics as well

Such a great art game. Everything was just right - felt like reading a wonderful short story.

I was pleasantly surprised by the poetic dialogue in this game. The writing is just excellent, and I can't wait to see more from this developer. :)

This game was just unbelievable. It's almost more of an interactive movie than a straight-out-adventure-puzzle-game, but the visual effects and backgrounds alone make it worth your time. I mean, *beautiful* stuff. And the voice acting, ye gods, I got chills, it was fantastic. The "Overall Enjoyment" rating is right, you have GOT to play this game right now.

Amazing art, voice acting and the idea of basing the game around 5 stages of...
How did you make those amazing leaves?

Wow. Just wow. The authors have excelled themselves. This looks simply beautiful and has a beautiful but sad story. It's a work of art.

Beautiful game very well done.

Whilst light on puzzles it is thought provoking and fun with great attention to detail both visually and otherwise.

Beautiful graphics, thought provoking story, excellent voice acting make this a wonderful experience - I wouldn't call it a game though there are some neat puzzles. Ben304 games are jewels and this one shines brightly.

Excellently executed, clever message.

I enjoyed it. It's a visually stunning game with very nice voice acting, music, and kind of a very clever story behind it all.

Some of the gameplay was not very engaging, and at times I felt that some parts could have been gameplay instead of just cut-scene. Some parts felt a little too emo for me, not that they were emotional, but more like forcing themselves to feel emotional, which is a totally different thing.

Overall, I recommend downloading it. It's one of the better crafted games AGS games I've played.

A story beautifully told.

The music and graphics in this game are what we've come to expect from Ben's games. Soothing, magical. They help release your imagination, as you try to think what's beyond the edges of the screen.

As usual, the game is more puzzling than about the puzzles themselves, but this shouldn't surprise anybody who's played Ben's previous games.

In the end a great experience, even if the story is a bit of a downer.
