The AGS Panel is a team of AGS forum veterans who play all of the games here, and give them ratings from one to five cups. The rating system is as follows:
1 Cup Not serious entertainment
2 Cups A reasonable game, worth a try
3 Cups A good game, worth playing
4 Cups A great game, well worth your time
5 Cups An outstanding, must-play game!
Feel free to disagree with the panel's rating, and please don't be offended if you think your game has been underrated!

(Why has my game been rated 1 cup?)

If your game has been rated 1 cup, please don't be offended! It's common for your first game release to get a 1-cup rating, due to the game having a lack of polish and flair -- which is understandable, because you're just getting started!

Please understand that the main purpose of the ratings is to help potential game players find high quality, bug-free games to play. You've probably learnt a lot about AGS as a result of making your first game -- so why not use that knowledge to start afresh, and do even better with your next game!

AGS Panel Review

"The Journey Down is a beautifully crafted adventure with a unique character style and a level of polish rarely seen in freeware games, though the sometimes rough animations and overscaling issues (as well as an odd lack of sounds) stand out simply because everything else looks so great. If you can get past a few flaws in the surface and a relatively short play time, The Journey Down will no doubt be a gem to add to your game collection."

Good game with very likeable characters and a lot of humor

With Chapter 3 of the commercial release launched this week, I'm going to write about this game as the "Golden Oldie" in this month's MAGSAN edition. Still remember this original game with immense fondness.

I've played so many games in my lifetime and I would without a doubt put this in my top 10. Everything was perfect! Puzzles were the right balance of not too hard or easy, graphics were AMAZING and the dialog was funny and engaging. I can not wait for part two!

Amazing, the original idea of the world and his people are great. Beautiful cutscene, backgrounds and dialogs.
I love the reggae soundtrack, one of the best game ever made with this engine.

ummm.... just wow. I can't believe I didn't play this game sooner.

Easily one of the best AGS games I've ever played. Reminded me a lot of Grim Fandango, which is a good thing :D
Holy jeez man, good job!

Created an account just to say that this is the most polished AGS game I've ever played. The art, cutscenes, and writing were great. The puzzles were logical and actually made me feel like I was figuring them out for myself. Good show!

Ooh, what a great game.... man, this is equal to the old Sierra classics. You were really great in creating a good atmosphere. Can't wait for the next installment!

Four cups indeed - this game is excellent. Style is the highlight, from the characters and writing through to the art and the music. The graphics are far beyond the standard for AGS games, and everything visually fits together. The puzzles have a cheeky, anarchistic quality that compliments the characters, and reminds me of the Lucasarts classics.

Shorter: Play this game!

I don’t think we've seen an adventure game with visually this well developed original fantasy game world since Grim Fandango. And the excellent soundtrack perfectly compliments it.

My only gripe would be the extreme simplicity of the interface – I was really missing some unique responses for the right mouse click, even if the game is otherwise a pleasure to play and explore.

Storywise the game gets a very good, intriguing start too. Too bad we'll need to wait so long for its climax, but I bet it'll be worth it.

I love this game. The soundtrack is so groovy and creative. Backgrounds are lovely. Each and every character within the game is unique in their own way - this game is reminded me a lot of the Broken Sword series graphically and atmospherically. I really reaaaaaaally can't wait for part 2!

Everything about this game makes sense, the puzzles, the endearing characters, the dialogue. The soundtrack helped in enhancing the tone for the game. I was captivated and played this game to the end, not for a moment did I feel bored or frustrated!

Theo, thank you for integrating Simon D'Souza's work into your game - I've looked him up, he's composed some great music *addicted*

1. It was nice to see a game that included black/Caribbean protaganists, as this is quite unusual.

2. The locations in the game, and setting of the scene were lovely. I liked the idea of the way the city was structured, and also "the edge" and its ominous feel.

I loved the game. The story is intriguing. The art is very good and I especially liked the faces of the main characters. The dialog is excellent - very witty. Good sound effects and tuneful (and appropriate) music. Let's hope we see a lot more of Bwana and Kito.
