The AGS Panel is a team of AGS forum veterans who play all of the games here, and give them ratings from one to five cups. The rating system is as follows:
1 Cup Not serious entertainment
2 Cups A reasonable game, worth a try
3 Cups A good game, worth playing
4 Cups A great game, well worth your time
5 Cups An outstanding, must-play game!
Feel free to disagree with the panel's rating, and please don't be offended if you think your game has been underrated!

(Why has my game been rated 1 cup?)

Close window
If your game has been rated 1 cup, please don't be offended! It's common for your first game release to get a 1-cup rating, due to the game having a lack of polish and flair -- which is understandable, because you're just getting started!

Please understand that the main purpose of the ratings is to help potential game players find high quality, bug-free games to play. You've probably learnt a lot about AGS as a result of making your first game -- so why not use that knowledge to start afresh, and do even better with your next game!

About this game

Snakes of Avalon is a dark, twisted comedy about alcoholism, family issues and insidious murder. Mixes the style and plot twists of Hitchcock's suspense thrillers with surreal trips, bodily dysfunctions and Arthurian symbolism. + polska wersja jezykowa!

AGS Panel Review

"An interesting look at the life of a barfly, Snakes of Avalon presents the player with a series of real (or are they imagined?) puzzles and events and, for the most part, keeps the interest of the player. Some odd puzzle design choices and a deceptively non-comedic storyline notwithstanding, Snakes of Avalon is definitely worth a look."

the art is lazy, the puzzles are illogical, the writing is AWESOME.

A truly offbeat game, a little disturbing at times even, an engrossing experience.

The best AGS game I've played in years. Very carefully constructed.

Snakes of Avalon is another one of those "Looks like it's going to be comedy, but turns out to be much, much darker" games that, though often overlooked, are a real contribution to the adventure game scene.

Snakes in particular reminded me a bit of HillBilly's "Merry Christmas, Alfred Robbins" - which you should play as well, if this is your style of game. Overall very well done, and deserving of all of the accolades that it has received.

Also, I should mention that the soundtrack is awesome. If there's one thing that keeps me playing a game, even when stumped by a puzzle, it's good sound design, which this game has in spades.

Overall, it is a very good game which deserves a look if dark humor is your cup of tea - which mine certainly is.

A very involving and highly original adventure! I have to go now, my fishmoose is calling me...

One of my favorite ags games!
The graphics are not the best, but the originality of the story and the immersive atmosphere sure make up for it.

This might have been one of the most confusing ones I've ever played. In all of its paranoia and confusion it manages to be fairly interesting, although some puzzles got a bit too confusing for me.

Overall opinion: Not the game for me, but still one of the better AGS games when looking at production values and quality.

The graphical style is unique and interesting, but I wouldn't call it too pretty for most part. Facial animation seems very clunky on most parts. The voice acting if fairly well done, but for some reason it seems that most of the game did not have any voice acting (only cutscenes). The music was very enjoyable, and deserves praise.

Great pacing, great story and awesomely original in its way of unfolding. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for something unique and different to spend a couple of hours on.

Best thing about the game is the soundtrack - jazz, blues, bebop tracks from the 20s-40s were so damn good, introduced me to a world of new music so I went online to purchase them!

I liked this game, I would definitely love to play another game by the author - one of the puzzles was a little too illogical though, so I had to get hold of a walkthrough for some hints. Graphically speaking, interesting and quirky, bright too, I'd play it again just to listen to the in-game music. Wish the game was longer though, and not limited to the bar. Playing the game, I could almost smell stale beer wafting off during the closeups of the main protaganist.

Awesome! Very weird story that will make you laugh out loud at some times. The puzzles make sense in their own weird way. The comic characters are fun and so are the cinematic cutscenes. Oh, and it might happen that when you open the menu screen for saving you keep it open just to listen to the amazing title track ;-)

A very nice game, with a very bizarre but somehow logical way to solve puzzles. Having played the first version, and having just finished this one, I have only good praise to give to this game. It was also nice to see the new additions. The music by Thomas is just not enough to adore. The theme struck to my head. A production of very high values initially and again now. The cinematic style of the enhanced version makes it more tied in terms of story than the original.
