The AGS Panel is a team of AGS forum veterans who play all of the games here, and give them ratings from one to five cups. The rating system is as follows:
1 Cup Not serious entertainment
2 Cups A reasonable game, worth a try
3 Cups A good game, worth playing
4 Cups A great game, well worth your time
5 Cups An outstanding, must-play game!
Feel free to disagree with the panel's rating, and please don't be offended if you think your game has been underrated!

(Why has my game been rated 1 cup?)

Close window
If your game has been rated 1 cup, please don't be offended! It's common for your first game release to get a 1-cup rating, due to the game having a lack of polish and flair -- which is understandable, because you're just getting started!

Please understand that the main purpose of the ratings is to help potential game players find high quality, bug-free games to play. You've probably learnt a lot about AGS as a result of making your first game -- so why not use that knowledge to start afresh, and do even better with your next game!

About this game

Sleep walking through an open StarGate isn't the best of ways to end up on a distant moon, especially when the StarGate closes behind you before you wake up. This is the position that the intrepid Captain Disaster finds himself in - not all, however, is as it seems; there is a greater purpose at work here.

With innumerable references to classic adventure games, science fiction and of course Pink Floyd, Captain Disaster in "The Dark Side of the Moon" is a light-hearted point and click adventure game which will exercise both your grey matter and funny bone. It's the first full adventure game to feature the Captain Disaster character - two more (commercial) games are in development, and hopefully many more to come in the future.

AGS Panel Review

"What can I say about Captain Disaster in the Dark Side of the Moon:  Zany? Funny?....Typical CaptainD style that we have come to know and love...
This early episode, although quite old now and not as strong as the later stuff is still enjoyable enough to play. Overall I thought the game showed promise at the time of what was/is to come. A monster has been set lose.

I expected to be replaying a classic AGS game, but with voice acting, but was VERY pleasantly surprised to find that I have never actually played it before 8-0

I know right?!

I guess that every time I looked for a new AGS game to play I skipped over this one, assuming that I'd already played it...

So, thank God you released the Talkie version, or I might never have played what is now on my list of best AGS games!

Your voice is also spot-on for the Red Dwarf/Hitchhikers' Guide tone of the game, and your American accent for Floyd is delightfully all over the place, which weirdly fits his character as a malfunctioning AI...(Intentional, I'm sure...)

GREAT game which kept a smile on my face the whole while playing!

This is an excellent game packed with puzzles and humour. Quite a few Sci-fi references to enjoy.

One of the things I enjoyed about this game is the Achievements section. Every now and then you will get an achievement, some are logical acheievements, some are for doing something funny.

Lots of inventory items to try and figure out what to do with, and nothing truly frustrating. There was maybe one hotspot that was difficult to see - it is near the chasm.

I wouldn't call the game a masterpiece, but I do highly recommend playing :)

I really enjoyed this adventure. Loved the Pink Floyd references, good graphics, funny and interesting dialogue, and challenging puzzles. What I enjoyed most was the creative integration and brilliant uses for inventory items picked up along the way, of course you'll have to play the game yourself to find such a fun way to travel around the moon, and the cool things some of the other items can do in the game. The bonus achievements were clever and alot of fun. Thanks so much Team D for putting this one together. Definately look forward to your next game.

This was a fun short game that gave me a few chuckles. It was entertaining enough that I stayed with it to the end even though I got stuck a couple times; I haven't completed many free adventure games in the last two years or so, as I've been busy with other stuff.

The puzzles made sense and some were fun to solve, though there were a couple pixel hunts that I'd rather have skipped. There were lots of references to popular adventure games and sci-fi series and movies; it's a thin line to walk, as too many reference dissolve the game's own identity.

I understand this is a promotion for a commercial game with much better art, but an to point it felt like a promotion, it felt like a proper free game. Kudos to the author for staying honest!
